Coeur Alaska’s Kensington mine comprises an underground, hard-rock gold mine, associated milling facilities and a campsite in the historic Berners Bay Mining District, 45 miles north-northwest of Juneau. About the Job:
The Mine Geologist will play a key role in Kensington Mine’s Geology and Ore Control program, leading underground ore control activities including mapping, face sampling, ore routing, and LiDAR/photogrammetry scanning. This position collaborates closely with Mine Engineering and Operations to optimize ore development and stope design, while supporting QA/QC, drilling programs, and geological modeling.
The schedule for this position is 15 days on / 13 days off.
Responsibilities:
- Stop work for safety concerns and abide by safety best practices, policies, and procedures.
- Assume a key role in Kensington Mine’s Geology and Ore Control program.
- Perform all underground ore control activities including routing shot material, geological mapping, face sampling, and handheld lidar and photogrammetry scanning.
- Manage and report out data related to underground ore control activities daily.
- Closely collaborate with Mine Engineering and Operations team to ensure ore development is optimized for grade and stope design.
- Create and monitor underground drilling programs to ensure they are completed safely and efficiently.
- Assist with QA/QC protocols, geostatistical investigations, geologic and resource model construction.
- Perform strenuous physical activities and be able to lift multiple 40 lb. samples daily.
- Perform all work in a safe and healthful manner in compliance with Company’s safety and
environmental policies and procedures.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Ability to work safely and promote a strong safety culture.
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
- 2+ years of geology experience in the mining environment.
- Strong understanding of assay QAQC principles and best practices.
- Proficiency in geological database management systems, preferably acQuire.
- Strong analytical skills with attention to detail and data integrity.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage resources, and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and a team-oriented mindset – being respectful, reliable, and easy to work with is just as important as technical skills.
- Sets high standards for self and others, builds trust, and takes accountability.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with geology and operations teams.
- Willingness to learn and cross-train in underground mine geology tasks.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
- Familiarity with mine planning software such as Vulcan, Leapfrog, or Deswik is an asset.
- Preference given to Alaska residents.
