PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Golf courses do not run themselves, and the grass definitely will not cut itself. Teammates here treat every visitor with genuine kindness and respect. Doing the right thing stays our main focus since we serve the local public. Typical days involve anything from prepping greens to solving a customer concern with a calm attitude. The starting hiring rate for this role is $17.00/hour.
This is classified as VHNE (Variable Hour Non-Benefit Employee), where the selected candidate will work less than 29 hours per week. This position does not provide medical benefits. This position earns sick leave in accordance with the Healthy Families and Workplace Act. The City of Aurora will conduct ongoing screenings of applications on a first-come, first-served basis; as soon as we determine we have a qualified pool of applicants, this position may close quickly and without notice.

Position overview:
Performs manual and skilled labor activities related to maintaining one of the city owned golf courses. The Golf Division operates the courses as a division of the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Daily tasks aimed at prepping the course for play and maintaining high level playing conditions may include:
Mowing, string trimming, bunker raking, greens rolling, trash removal, hose watering, restroom cleaning and other small/medium equipment operation
- Assist with various small construction, maintenance and/or irrigation projects
- Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a golf maintenance position or operating small power equipment and riding mowers
Knowledge:
- Awareness that the customer experience must be the priority if we are to be successful
- Understanding that as a government employee, it is our job to serve the public
- Awareness of the importance of treating everyone with equal respect and kindness
- Knowledge of basic manual work skills and associated best safety practices
- Knowledge about the game of golf for safety reasons and customer service
Skills:
- Team oriented attitude willing to help and take direction in an effort to accomplish team objectives
- Skill in operating small power equipment and riding mowers
Abilities:

Licenses and Certifications Required:
- Colorado Driver’s License (at the discretion of the Supervisor)– within three months of being hired
WORKING CONDITIONS
Essential Personnel:
When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the City, all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel
Physical Demands:
- Medium - work that involves lifting/carrying no more than 50 pounds with or without assistance
- Frequent walking, standing, lifting/carrying heavy objects, pushing, pulling, crouching and kneeling
- Speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens
- Hand/foot/eye coordination for operating equipment and performing other duties
Work Environment:
- Works primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions with exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, water, sun, blowing sand and other conditions found in an outdoor environment.
Equipment Used:
- Will operate riding mowers, power tools, misc. equipment and city vehicles related to maintenance operations
This position may require the incumbent to use personal equipment (e.g. vehicle, cell phone, tools, etc.) in the course of their employment.
The city of Aurora will implement furlough days (unpaid days off) for most employees in 2026. The scheduled furlough dates are January 16, April 10, July 2, and December 24.
