Role Summary

As an IT Systems & Infrastructure Intern, you will gain hands-on experience supporting day-to-day IT operations across computer systems, software, hardware, and basic network infrastructure. Working under the guidance of senior IT team members, you will assist with user support, system maintenance, and monitoring activities while developing practical skills in an enterprise IT environment.

This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates who are eager to learn systems administration, networking fundamentals, and IT support best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in providing Level 1 IT support for internal users related to computer systems, software, hardware, and basic network issues.
  • Support the maintenance and availability of operating systems and end-user computing environments.
  • Assist with routine system maintenance tasks, including backups, file maintenance, and basic recovery activities under supervision.
  • Help with installation, configuration, and testing of system software updates and patches.
  • Assist in configuring software and resolving basic technical issues.
  • Support monitoring of network activity, firewall rules, VPN access, and security alerts under guidance.
  • Help maintain software licensing records and IT documentation.
  • Assist with basic Active Directory and Office 365 user administration tasks (e.g., user onboarding, access requests).
  • Accurately document issues, resolutions, and procedures.
  • Follow company IT policies, security standards, and operational procedures.
  • Perform other IT-related tasks as assigned by the manager or mentor.

Learning Objectives

  • Exposure to Windows server and client operating systems
  • Understanding of networking fundamentals, firewalls, VPNs, and security monitoring
  • Basics of server backups, monitoring tools, and performance management
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise IT tools, ticketing systems, and support workflows
  • Development of professional communication and customer service skills

Skills & Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of Windows OS, computer hardware, and networking concepts.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving ability.
  • Customer-service orientation and patience.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, learning-focused environment.
  • Willingness to support a 24/7 operational environment (shift-based, if applicable).

Preferred (but not required):

  • Exposure to Active Directory, Office 365, antivirus tools, or basic networking/security concepts
  • Prior internship, lab, or academic project experience in IT support or systems administration

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move within office and IT environments, including occasional access to server or equipment rooms.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift or move IT equipment up to 40 pounds with assistance if required.
  • Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands and wrists.
