We are looking for Bridge Engineers to join our team in our Austin, TX office. In this role, the engineer will work on a multi-disciplinary team inspecting bridges and developing bridge and structural plans for transportation projects for TXDOT, other State DOT agencies, and/or municipal localities. 

Responsibilities:

Responsible for performing engineering inspection, design, coordination, and review of projects in a specific engineering discipline for an assigned functional area. Work will also include performing field inspections of highway bridges, documenting defects, preparing reports, and completing computations to calculate the load ratings of various bridge types. Responsibilities may include preparing designs and contract documents for the repair or replacement of various types of bridge structures and providing support during construction such as reviewing shop drawings. The position requires the application of professional engineering concepts, principles, practices, and methods sufficient to perform a broad range of engineering inspection and design activities in a variety of work environments.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • 2 - 5 years of relevant experience required
  • Relevant Internship experience preferred
  • Experience with TXDOT bridge safety inspections a plus
  • Completion of NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges) a plus
  • Ability to travel in-state and out-of-state on as needed basis 
  • Applicant must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record
  • Must be able to work independently and in a design group setting 
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must have the ability to read/interpret plans and specifications
  • Must have writing and drawing skills necessary to complete inspection reports and documentation
  • Must be willing to work nights and overtime, when required by the project assignment
  • Hands-on experience with MicroStation/GEOPAK/Open Bridge software a plus
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others
  • Exceptional communication and organization skills

Preferred Requirements:

  • Relevant Internship experience
  • Experience with TXDOT bridge safety inspections 
  • Completion of NHI-130055 (Safety Inspection of In-Service Bridges)

Physical Requirements:

This position requires the ability to perform a variety of physical tasks in the field as part of the essential job functions. Duties may include:

  • Walking and navigating across rough or uneven terrain such as mud, rocks, grass, dirt, steep hillsides, heavily wooded areas, and other unpaved surfaces
  • Moving around active project sites, which may involve climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, or poles
  • Performing physical activities such as bending, twisting, kneeling, and climbing
  • Remaining in a stationary position—either standing or sitting—for extended periods of time
  • Repetitive motions involving the wrists, hands, and/or fingers
  • Lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds and/or carting objects up to 50 lbs. distances up to 100 yards.
  • Driving to and from project sites which may involve distances of up to or exceeding 400 miles round trip.
  • Must be able to function safely in an environment with potential risks, including, but not limited to those described in this document.

The work environment may include exposure to a range of environmental conditions, including high and low temperatures, precipitation, and other outdoor elements. Work may also be performed in noisy conditions or confined/enclosed spaces.
