Overview
We are designing the grid of the future!Â
EPE is building the modelling capability that generation, large-load, and OEM clients depend on to get connected and stay compliant as grid codes tighten across every market. We are recruiting an Associate Technical Director for Modelling Services to lead that work. This is a technical leadership role for someone who owns model development end to end, across generation and load, EMT and stability, and who wants to build the service line, the tools, and the team behind it. The role is market-agnostic by design and the expectation is that this leader will operate across EPE's regions of interest.ÂResponsibilities

How you can make an impact:
Â
Technical delivery and model development- Own complex model development for both generation and load, spanning EMT (PSCAD, EMTP) and RMS/stability (PSS/E, TSAT/PSLF) domains.
- Deliver IBR models and studies covering grid-forming and grid-following controls, fault ride-through, and abnormal-voltage response.
- Build large-load and data-center models that hold up against emerging US grid-code and interconnection requirements.
- Roll up your sleeves on the hardest generation and load projects and jump in to help engineers troubleshoot and resolve issues.
- Drive model quality and benchmarking: cross-platform model testing, validation, and fast turnaround on model quality tests across ISOs.
- Lead hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and real-time simulation work on platforms such as RTDS, Opal-RT and RSCAD.
- Stand up controller testing that OEMs and clients can rely on for compliance and performance validation.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of modelling engineers, building a culture of excellence, accountability, and ownership.
- Take responsibility for outcomes, decisions, and overall team success.
- Coach staff on both technical depth and client-facing skills.
- Strengthen delivery frameworks and QA/QC so the team scales without losing rigor.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to generation developers, large-load and data-center clients, and inverter, PPC, and turbine OEMs.
- Translate modelling and compliance complexity into clear, actionable guidance that accelerates client decisions.
- Lead reviews of models and studies, and find pathways to remove roadblocks and expedite projects.
- Make sound recommendations under ambiguity, gathering the input needed to get it right.
- Own the go-to-market strategy for modelling services expansion.
- Build OEM partnerships for model building, testing, and compliance support, including HIL testing engagements.
- Identify and develop net-new modelling services for data-center and IBR clients, such as HIL testing, UPS validation and bridge-to-power and microgrid work.
- Partner with the software group to build the internal tools and benchmarking capability that set EPE apart.
- Lead proposal and RFP development for modelling work.
- Represent EPE in the industry groups shaping new requirements, through active roles in IEEE, CIGRE, ESIG, or NERC and through conferences, technical papers, and forums.
Qualifications
Bring your passion, here's what’s needed:
- Minimum 8 years in the electric energy industry, with deep, hands-on modelling experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in EMT and stability modelling for generation, load, or both.
- Deep understanding of IBR behavior: grid-forming and grid-following controls, fault ride-through and applicable grid codes (IEEE 2800, ISO/Utility standards, etc).
- Working knowledge of power system modelling and simulation software such as PSS/E, PSCAD, TSAT, RSCAD, PowerWorld, or ASPEN.
- Understanding of interconnection and grid-code requirements for generation and load across ISOs, RTOs, and utilities.
- Exceptional communicator who can influence, create alignment, and decide confidently under uncertainty.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively across cross-functional teams.
- Leadership in standards development, such as the IEEE P2800 series, IEEE PSRC, or CIGRE working groups.
- Real-time simulation and HIL experience (RTDS, Opal-RT, Hypersim, RSCAD).
- Protection and short-circuit modelling, including IBR and DER fault behavior.
- Load modelling and data-center impact analysis, including UPS and rectifier behavior, fast-ramping loads and their stability and short-circuit effects.
- Experience developing modelling tools, test cases, or automation.
- Using AI and automation tools responsibly to improve quality, productivity, and innovation.
- Direct experience at an ISO, RTO, OEM, or utility, or consulting on their behalf.
