Position Summary
The Executive Chef is responsible for leading all culinary operations at Cambria Hotel Austin Downtown. This role oversees kitchen management, menu development, food quality, cost control, team leadership, and compliance with brand standards. The Executive Chef ensures an exceptional dining experience for hotel guests, banquet clients, and local patrons while driving profitability and maintaining operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership
Develop and execute innovative, high-quality menus for restaurant, bar, in-room dining, and banquet operations
Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portion control
Lead seasonal menu changes and special event offerings
Maintain brand alignment with Cambria standards and local Austin market trends
Team Management
Recruit, train, mentor, and develop kitchen staff
Create and manage kitchen schedules to align with business demands
Foster a positive, professional, and performance-driven culture
Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective action when needed
Financial & Operational Oversight
Manage food and labor costs to meet budgeted targets
Oversee inventory control, ordering, and vendor relationships
Monitor waste reduction and implement cost-saving initiatives
Collaborate with the General Manager and Director of Sales on forecasting and banquet planning
Quality & Compliance
Ensure strict adherence to food safety and sanitation standards (local, state, and brand requirements)
Maintain compliance with health department regulations
Oversee kitchen cleanliness, equipment maintenance, and safety protocols
Guest Experience
Engage with guests to ensure satisfaction and resolve culinary-related concerns
Partner with front-of-house leadership to deliver seamless service
Support special events, VIP experiences, and community partnerships
Qualifications
5+ years of progressive culinary leadership experience (hotel experience preferred)
Proven experience managing banquet and high-volume restaurant operations
Strong knowledge of food cost controls and budgeting
ServSafe Certification (or ability to obtain)
Exceptional leadership, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays
