The Lead Digital Navigator is responsible for individualized or small group assistance to Goodwill Central Texas clients and community members who need affordable home internet service, affordable internet-capable devices, and/or coaching in introductory digital skills to access the technology. Additionally, supporting the teaching of digital literacy skills to groups or individuals. This role will work internally and externally in the community to bring awareness to the importance of digital equity as it relates to education, career training, and work. This position requires travel throughout the Central Texas area to conduct outreach, attend events, and engage with community partners. Additional responsibilities will include working cross departmentally to further the mission of Goodwill Central Texas. 

 

Role and Responsibilities

  • Assess client access to technology, current digital skill level pertaining to what they need to accomplish the plan, connectivity needs, and internet use priorities. Develop plan to support client training goals.
  • If necessary, advise clients about free or affordable home internet service options for which they may qualify, assist clients to apply for services they choose, and support their efforts to secure service. In addition, advise clients about sources of affordable computers or other internet connected devices for which they may qualify.
  • Drive and operate the organization's digital equity van to outreach events, training sessions, and community engagement activities across Central Texas.
  • Provide training in introductory/awareness digital skills: career exploration, job applications, and online job searching. Examples include, but not limited to, Indeed, LinkedIn & Glassdoor.
  • Analyze and assess performance improvement in digital literacy and participant behavior as it relates to career readiness and individual goal. Contribute to the quality of digital skills curriculum and training materials: conduct research, design, edit, update materials used in digital literacy training as it relates to Career Services.
  • Ability to embrace the challenge of learning and teaching basic technological concepts related to internet services, computer and device characteristics, and common online services and applications.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders regarding training curriculum and client/employer needs.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by administrative regulations and policy. Accurately enter services and training hours into WFA utilized data bases
  • Responsible for maintaining connections with community-based resources, human service agencies, and engagement in the Digital Empowerment Community of Austin; making referrals as necessary.
  • Regular travel within the Central Texas area is required to support program initiatives, attend meetings, and provide services in various locations
  • Ability to intervene effectively and ethically in crisis situations, developing applicable interventions and follow-up plans to thoroughly address immediate and future needs while maintaining safety.
  • Support overall Career Services programming as needed
  • Maintain client confidentiality; prepare documents and reports as requested.
  • Know and implement agency policies.
  • Be knowledgeable and able to provide information and referrals for community-based services.
  • Ability to network and collaborate with community partners.
  • Ability to manage a classroom effectively.
  • Attend staff and other organization meetings as required by Workforce Advancement
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

 

Required Skills & Qualifications 

  • Formal training or class facilitator experience for socially disadvantaged individuals.
  • Must possess understanding of marginalization and how it impacts those Goodwill Central Texas serves and employs
  • Must have reliable transportation and the ability to travel within Central Texas as needed.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to drive the organization's digital equity van to various locations across Central Texas.
  • Exhibit respect for diversity of thought and have experience to advance it in teams/organization.
  • Proficient in oral and written communication skills
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) G-Suite, and job search platforms  
  • Valid Driver’s License, good driving record, liability insurance, vehicle in good working condition to travel on work related business to meet client location/service delivery needs.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to work in both a climate, and non-climate-controlled facility.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and talk or hear.
  • Ability to cope with and tolerate moderate levels of stress is also a necessity. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
