Â
At Texas DPS Credit Union, we do more than provide loans. We serve those who serve others, including the employees and families of the Texas Department of Public Safety, Texas Police Association, and Texas Sheriffs Association.
Â
We are here to educate our members about money matters, enhance their experience, and empower them to make decisions that put them in the best possible financial position. This vision drives our leadership team and employees in every action we take.
We seek individuals who are enthusiastic about helping drive our vision and who exemplify our core values of Authenticity, Excellence, Integrity, Outstanding Service, and Unity. If you are looking to make an impact while working alongside a close-knit team, we would like to connect.

What you will do as the Loan Specialist
As a Loan Specialist, you will create a consultative, relationship-focused lending experience for members and applicants. You will learn their goals, recommend responsible solutions, guide applications through our loan origination system, communicate decisions and next steps, and work closely with our processing team to move approved loans toward closing. This position does not independently make credit decisions, but it does require strong lending knowledge, sound judgment, confident communication, and a genuine ability to connect with people.
- Build trusted relationships through thoughtful loan conversations and proactive follow-up
- Identify member needs and recommend appropriate consumer loan and protection solutions
- Collect and maintain complete, accurate application information in the LOS
- Review credit and application details for concerns, discrepancies, and opportunities to strengthen the request
- Communicate approvals, counteroffers, conditions, and adverse decisions clearly and respectfully
- Manage leads and applications to support timely decisions and strong application conversion
- Resolve routine lending issues and escalate exceptions or higher-risk circumstances appropriately
- Complete a clean, accurate handoff to the Loan Processor after the member accepts approved terms
- Maintain current knowledge of products, rates, promotions, procedures, and compliance requirements
- Collaborate with lending, processing, operations, collections, and management to serve members effectively
Â
This position suits you if:
- You enjoy talking with people, asking good questions, and helping them find a responsible path forward
- You are comfortable with sales goals but believe the member’s best interest comes first
- You communicate clearly, confidently, and empathetically—even when the answer is complicated
- You understand consumer lending and can recognize when something needs a closer look
- You are organized, accountable, and persistent about follow-up
- You enjoy technology and can use automation without turning off your critical thinking
- You thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
