Responsibilities

Texas NeuroRehab Center is a specialized treatment facility located ten minutes from downtown Austin on 67 wooded acres.  We have served the Austin community for over 80-years and are proud of our history and tenured leadership team.

 

Today, Texas NeuroRehab Center provides complex medical and brain injury rehab for ages 13 years and older and neurobehavioral residential treatment services for children and adolescents. The capabilities of the facility as a whole allow for integrated and specialized care for children, adolescents and adults facing difficult challenges.

 

 

Texas NeuroRehab Center is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and motivated Occupational Therapist (OT) to join our new Sage Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit. Cross coverage on other units as needed. The Occupational Therapist will provide comprehensive evaluation, treatment planning, and therapeutic interventions to patients recovering from neurological, orthopedic, traumatic, and medically complex conditions. As a member of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, the OT will focus on maximizing patients' independence, safety, functional performance, and quality of life through evidence-based occupational therapy services. This position offers the opportunity to help shape a new inpatient rehabilitation program and contribute to exceptional patient outcomes.

Qualifications

The following are the job requirements for the Occupational Therapist position:

 

SKILLS KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: 

Clinical Care

  • Complete comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide evidence-based interventions to address activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), cognitive function, upper extremity function, vision/perception, mobility, and community reintegration.
  • Assess and recommend adaptive equipment, durable medical equipment, and environmental modifications.
  • Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans as needed to achieve functional goals.
  • Educate patients, families, and caregivers regarding diagnosis, treatment strategies, safety, and discharge recommendations.
  • Participate in discharge planning and recommend appropriate post-acute services and resources.

Interdisciplinary Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, case managers, psychologists, and other rehabilitation professionals.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, care conferences, and patient/family education sessions.
  • Contribute to the development of individualized rehabilitation goals and plans of care.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Complete evaluations, treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries accurately and within established timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and payer requirements.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and uphold HIPAA standards.

Quality & Professional Development

  • Support quality improvement initiatives and evidence-based practice standards.
  • Maintain professional competency through continuing education and ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Assist with program development and process improvement initiatives for the Sage Unit.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Current Texas Occupational Therapist license or eligibility for licensure.
  • Current BLS certification 

EXPERIENCE:

  • One (1) year or more of experience in inpatient rehabilitation, acute care, neurorehabilitation, or related setting.
  • Experience treating patients with neurological diagnoses, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, and other complex rehabilitation conditions.
  • Experience with adaptive equipment assessment and discharge planning.

 

PHYSICAL/GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to sustain activity eight hours a day. Able to remain on feet eight hours per day. Able to confront a dangerous and aggressive patient. Able to verbally communicate to de-escalate a crisis situation, explain treatment to the patient to allow active participation, and to protect self and others from aggressive patients or other incidents. Able to restrain patients by individual or team restraint per facility policy. Able to frequently lift, carry, and lower 50 pounds without assistance. Able to kneel, stoop, bend, and pull various weights or items (up to 50 pounds).Able to push patients in wheelchairs up and down hills, pursue running patients, and traverse hospital grounds. Able to transfer patients to and from wheelchairs. Able to visually observe so as to convey patient behavior verbally or in writing. Able to write legibly and grammatically so as to convey patient behavior and information in the patient’s medical record. Able to read medical records and other reports. Able to use hands repetitively. Ability to use hands to grasp, type, and write (fine motor skills). Regular and expected attendance. Hearing and vision sufficient to perform essential job functions.
