JOB SUMMARY

The Dispatcher reports to the Dispatch Supervisor and is responsible for ensuring that all routed work assignments are performed in accordance with policies and standards. This position is a support role for all of the organization, including Operations, Customer Care, Safety, and Sales teams to share communications from and to our drivers while ensuring efficiency and profitability within the company.

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Updates master files and prepares route files for producing schedule and work order-based routes based on schedules provided by Operations Management.
  2. Support drivers by uploading daily route information into their tablets.
  3. Reassign routing assignments when personnel or equipment are not available.  
  4. Communicate to Operations Management of any drivers not logged into their assign routes daily. 
  5. Respond to internal calls and emails regarding services including equipment placement, driver ETA and service concerns.
  6. Answer calls via landline and driver issued radios.
  7. Review projected workloads to assess if additional drivers, equipment or changes to operating hours are required to meet customer and business needs.
  8. Communicate to drivers on route to help ensure route completion.  
  9. Inquire on concerns while on route including truck maintenance, service concerns and route efficiency to provide to Operations Management. 
  10. Debrief drivers to ensure all data is complete and accurate in the log, including disposal information, work order completions, incomplete stops, and site/service concerns.  Share pertinent information to the appropriate departments.
  11. Cross-departmental collaboration daily to ensure driver logs are populated with accurate information to post for billing.
  12. Communicate route delays to customer support teams with projected plans on completion of delayed services.

 

REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • At least two years of customer service and/or waste industry experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to use common office equipment – i.e. phones, radio systems, desk top computers;
  • Proficiency with using internet mapping programs; 
  • Ability to achieve proficiency with all data management software and applications utilized for dispatch processes within the first six months;
  • Ability to work with Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Must have basic math skills;
  • Ability to achieve proficiency with routing software used by TDS dispatchers, within the first six months;
  • Ability to effectively and fluently communicate in English in both written and verbal form;
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram format
  • Problem-solving ability;
  • Knowledge of safety practices, accident management and commercial driver’s license regulations.
  • Ability to achieve proficiency with locations and service areas in each line of business within the first six months;
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays.

 

PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Industry or trucking knowledge and or experience.
  • Dispatching experience.

OVERNIGHT Sunday - Thursday 8pm - 5am
