Senior Construction Estimator – Heavy Civil

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Construction Estimator to join our growing heavy civil construction team in Austin, Texas. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience preparing competitive bids for large-scale infrastructure and site development projects, with a strong background in heavy civil estimating and proficiency using HeavyBid software.
This role is responsible for leading the estimating process from initial bid review through final proposal submission while collaborating closely with operations, project management, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects including:
Earthwork
Underground utilities
Roadway and paving
Drainage infrastructure
Site development
Concrete structures
Analyze plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and contract documents.
Develop detailed quantity takeoffs and pricing strategies.
Utilize HeavyBid software to manage and produce estimates.
Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
Coordinate with project managers and field operations to ensure estimating accuracy and constructability.
Identify project risks, value engineering opportunities, and cost-saving alternatives.
Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations.
Maintain historical cost databases and estimating records.
Support business development efforts and assist with proposal preparation.
Qualifications
Minimum of 7 years of experience in heavy civil construction estimating.
Proven experience estimating projects such as highways, utilities, grading, excavation, paving, or municipal infrastructure.
Strong proficiency with:
HeavyBid software
Microsoft Excel
Construction plan takeoff tools
Strong understanding of:
Unit-cost estimating
Production rates
Scheduling concepts
Means and methods of construction
Ability to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications.
Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field preferred but not required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience estimating projects in the Texas market.
Familiarity with TxDOT, municipal, and public infrastructure projects.
Knowledge of HCSS products and construction management software.
Strong subcontractor and vendor relationships within Central Texas.
