JOB SUMMARY
The Shop Supervisor manages the daily staffing and workload of shop personnel to meet performance goals. Â This position monitors repair and maintenance processes to ensure compliance with established procedures, tracks shop costs and expenses against the budget and identifies training and development opportunities for shop personnel.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
- Manage daily staffing and workload to meet shop performance goals.
- Monitor repair and maintenance processes to ensure compliance with established procedures. Â
- Hold shop personnel accountable for completing work within the established time and quality expectations. Â
- Evaluate maintenance repairs and cost.
- Supervise mechanics and give timely, specific feedback on performance and opportunities for improvement.
- Identify training and development opportunities for shop personnel.
- Conduct quality inspections to ensure proper repairs are made and units are road worthy.
- Immediately report any safety violations and correcting unsafe acts or conditions.
- Assist with mentoring staff, taking disciplinary actions, writing and delivering performance evaluations.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree in Business, Logistics or related fields and at least one year of experience (the degree can be substituted with experience on a year-for-year basis, up to four years); or an industrial technician certification and at least one year of experience in heavy duty truck and trailer maintenance
- Experience with hydraulic, electrical, steering, suspension, brakes, engine, transmissions, HVAC and special body applications
- Three years of supervisory experience in a maintenance organization or completion of technical school and at least five years of experience
- Extensive mechanical background
- Demonstrate solid working knowledge of service shop procedures
- Demonstrate creativity and adaptability
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite – e.g. Word, Excel, Outlook
- Reliable transportation and the ability to travel to multiple facilities or work sites
- Ability to work overnight, weekend or holiday shifts, as needed
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics or related field and at least one year of related truck and trailer maintenance supervisor experience
- Valid Commercial driver’s license (CDL)
- Safe driving record for last five years
- Department of Transportation (DOT) certifications for air brake systems, preventive maintenance inspection and air conditioning
- Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Master Truck certification
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Class C driver’s license
- Safe driving record for three years
