As a Tax Associate at H&R Block, you'll begin a career in tax and client service through a hands-on, apprenticeship-style experience. You’ll build your skills with training, guidance, and coaching as you grow. With support from advanced technology and a Client Care Specialist, you’ll focus on reviewing each client’s tax situation, offering clear advice, and building trust. This role is in-person and not remote.
- Partner with a dedicated Client Care Specialist who gathers client information, allowing you to focus on reviewing each client's tax situation and delivering a great experience
- Leverage H&R Block's advanced technology to prepare returns while you focus on reviewing results, ensuring accuracy, and providing personalized advice
- Use open-ended questions and active listening to understand client needs and identify tax savings opportunities
- Recommend relevant products and services based on client needs, questions, and unique situations
- Apply problem-solving skills to analyze client information and address questions with guidance and resources
- Continue building tax knowledge through ongoing training to grow your confidence and ability to serve clients effectively
- Build strong client relationships and support office goals through teamwork, collaboration, and a client-first approach
Required Qualifications
- Successful completion of the H&R Block Income Tax Course1
- Experience interacting with customers or clients in a service-oriented environment
- Strong communication skills, including explaining information clearly and asking questions to understand needs
- Problem-solving skills, including organizing information and identifying solutions
- Comfort using digital tools and systems as well as AI-based tools such as Copilot and ChatGPT
- High school diploma / GED / equivalent
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Experience in a client-facing or consultative role, such as financial advising, insurance, retail sales, or professional services
- Experience using client discovery skills to understand needs and recommend solutions
- Ability to work 15–35 hours per week, with availability up to 40 hours during peak periods
- Availability to work evenings and weekends during tax season
