Job Details:

Purpose

Assist with routine lab maintenance and preparation of standard reagents to ensure a clean, organized, and efficient research environment.

Responsibilities

  • Autoclave glassware and pipette tips

  • Load dishwasher

  • Refill bottles by sink (ethanol, bleach, isopropanol, water, soap)

  • Refill paper towel containers

  • Prepare SDS PAGE gels

  • Prepare LB Agar plates

  • Prepare buffers (TGS & TAE)

  • Prepare antibiotics (Carbenicillin, Ampicillin, Chloramphenicol, Kanamycin)

  • Prepare -20 degree aliquots (BSA, IPTG, DTT)

  • Assist researchers with tasks/experiments

  • Help organize the lab

  • Keep benches/scale room tidy

Required Qualifications

  • Current UT Austin undergraduate student

  • Able to work up to ~10 hours/week with time daily

  • Reliable, organized, and able to follow lab safety and written instructions

  • Comfortable doing routine tasks (washing, autoclaving, preparing common solutions) and working in a shared lab space

Preferred Qualifications

  • Major/minor in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field

  • Prior wet-lab experience (course lab or research lab) is a plus, but not required

  • Familiarity with basic lab techniques (pipetting, making buffers, preparing agar plates, SDS-PAGE gels) is a plus

Hourly Rate
$15 - $20/hour (depending on qualifications)
