JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Bartender

Reports to: Beverage Operations Manager; Director of Food & Beverage

Supervisors: Not a supervisory position

Position Summary: 

The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests in a timely, professional, and friendly manner. This role requires that all beverages are prepared accurately and according to established standards while delivering exceptional customer service. Maintaining a clean, organized, and well stocked bar area.

Position Characteristics: 

Bar staff must excel in a fast-paced environment and have a positive attitude while providing exceptional service. Must have strong communication skills and present a friendly and upbeat attitude. Be able to think through problems and/or unexpected situations; multi-task and be able to act quickly while retaining a calm, professional demeanor. Knowledgeable of drink preparation, wine service, and both food and beverage menus. Must have a good sense of time management and organization, take pride in their appearance, provide excellent drink service and presentation. Ability to anticipate guest needs.

Essential Job Functions: *including but not limited to*

Guest Interaction

  • Provide a polished, attentive, and knowledgeable service to guests seated at the bar.
  • Engage with guests at the bar to create a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere, ensuring their needs are met promptly and courteously
  • Engage guests through thoughtful, suggestive selling of cocktails and wine.
  • Make informed beverage recommendations based on guest preference, menu selections, and occasion.
  • Responsibly serve alcohol and have awareness of guest’s state of intoxication


Drink Preparation & Service:

  • Prepare classic, craft, and signature cocktails with consistency, precision, and proper presentation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the restaurant’s wine program and confidently guide guests towards appropriate selections.
  • Ensure all beverages are made and served quickly and accurately, while maintaining high standards of quality, presentation, and taste.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked bar area, including glassware, garnishes, and drink ingredients.


Bar Maintenance & Cleanliness:

  • Ensure that the bar area, including countertops, floors, and bar tools, is kept clean and organized at all times.
  • Regularly clean glassware, utensils, and bar equipment, maintaining hygiene and safety standards.
  • Maintain sanitation standards for all bar equipment, including shakers, coolers, and bar sinks, in accordance with health and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and stocked bar area, including glassware, garnishes, and drink ingredients.


Collaboration & Team Support: 

  • Work with other bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure smooth and efficient service throughout the shift.
  • Assist in setting up the bar before opening and closing the bar at the end of the shift, ensuring that all equipment is properly stored and cleaned.
  • Help train new bartenders and barbacks by sharing knowledge of drink recipes, service techniques, and bar procedures.


Additional Responsibilities and Job Requirements: 

  • Contribute to a warm, professional, and welcoming atmosphere for both guests and fellow team members.
  • In-depth knowledge of cocktail recipes, wine, beer, tools and techniques.
  • Strong multitasking abilities and the ability to work efficiently under pressure.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to remember drink orders, guest preferences, and keep track of tabs in a high-volume environment

Preferred Education and/or Experience: 

Previous experience as a bartender or in a similar role withing the hospitality or service industry (high-touch hospitality environments strongly preferred). Knowledge of beer, wine, and spirits, and be familiar with standard drink recipes.

Appearance and Grooming:

All employees are required to follow the procedures set forth by the associate handbook regarding proper workplace appearance. Employees must adhere to their department’s specific uniform requirements. 

Language Skills:

Ability to speak clearly and concisely to maintain proper, effective communication with members and staff.

Reasoning Abilities:

Be able to problem-solve, possess basic mathematical skills, and be flexible. Establish and uphold effective working relationships with others. Work quickly and accurately, both independently and as a part of a team. Exercise good judgment, multi-task, and understand and follow instruction.

Physical Demands:


This position involves (on a regular basis) standing, walking, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, reaching, climbing stairs/ladders, and lifting at least 50 pounds.

Work Environment: 

 

The noise level in the workplace is usually moderate, characteristic of fine dining restaurants or country clubs. The work environment is comparable to other food service industries and restaurant environments but may include atypical or extraordinary conditions.
