On-Call Custodian - TX DOT

Job Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining clean, safe, and sanitary facilities by performing routine cleaning. This position supports the overall appearance and functionality of assigned buildings by ensuring that all custodial duties are completed in accordance with established standards and schedules.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing assigned areas.

• Clean and disinfect restrooms, break rooms, offices, hallways, and other common areas.

• Empty trash and recycling containers and dispose of waste in designated areas.

• Replenish restroom supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper.

• Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, or supply needs to the supervisor in a timely manner.

• Follow all safety procedures and use cleaning chemicals and equipment properly.

• Support special cleaning projects or deep cleaning activities as assigned.

• Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned to support facility operations.

• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Previous custodial or janitorial experience.

• Ability to follow instructions and work independently or as part of a team.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.

• Ability to safely operate basic custodial equipment.

• Good communication skills and ability to interact professionally with staff and visitors.

• Attendance is a requirement to be successful in this position.

Work Schedule

• On-Call position; the number of hours worked will vary based on operational needs.
• Typical schedule is Monday through Friday from 5:00 PM to 12:30 AM; however, hours may vary based on operational needs.
• Employees may be assigned to cover absences, special projects, and staffing shortages.
• Schedule may include weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.
• Availability to work on short notice is required.
• Additional hours may be available based on operational needs and employee availability.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift for extended periods.

• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

• Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work in various environmental conditions.
