Staff Engineer, Embedded Software

We are looking for a Staff Engineer, Embedded Software, to join our Software & Digital Platforms Group (SDP) in Austin, Texas, working on intelligent power management products for datacenters.


About the Role
As Staff Engineer, Embedded Software, you will be a senior technical individual contributor who provides deep technical leadership across intelligent power management products for datacenters, including firmware, APIs, tools and services. You will design, implement and evolve complex embedded systems while mentoring engineers and influencing architectural and technical decisions across teams.


Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Lead the design of complex embedded software subsystems and features.
  • Ensure designs are robust, scalable and aligned with long-term product goals.
  • Develop high-quality embedded software in C and other relevant languages.
  • Work across the stack, covering bare metal and RTOS based systems, designing and implementing device drivers, services and embedded applications.
  • Maintain and improve legacy code when necessary.
  • Develop code in pre-silicon simulation environments to ensure functioning code is available to execute immediately on first silicon samples.
  • Lead silicon and board bring-up activities.
  • Optimize software performance, balancing MIPS, memory and power usage.
  • Lead design and code reviews, upholding coding standards and best practices.
  • Mentor senior and junior engineers.
  • Identify and communicate technical risks.


Minimum candidate requirements:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • 8+ years of industry experience in real-time embedded systems development.
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++.
  • Deep understanding of RTOS or bare metal systems.
  • Proven experience in delivering production embedded systems.


Desirable additional skills and experience:

  • Familiarity with electrical power control systems.
  • Experience with embedded RTOS such as Zephyr.
  • Experience with embedded security (secure boot, secure communications).
  • Familiarity with software development using AI tools (Claude, MS Copilot).

Experience with Agile workflows such as Scrum or Kanban.
