PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Residence Area Manager (RAM) is tasked with overseeing the day-to-day management of Residence Assistants (RAs), residence halls, and students in their area. In close cooperation with the Dean of Students, this role is essential for communicating the vision of student life at Ave Maria University to our students, especially through the RAs. RAMs are to oversee and facilitate the formation of RAs as student leaders, manage RAs, maintain high standards of cleanliness and maintenance around the dorms, and be the primary professional staff responders for student CARE and conduct incidents. 
 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Student Leader Formation and Mentoring

Working with RAs (specifically 8-20) to enhance their role as peer leaders

Resolving issues between students and RAs

Resolving and mediating between student disputes

Help supervise on-campus events

  • Personnel Management

Oversee RA scheduling and responsibilities

Maintaining standards and accountability

  • Facilities Management

Oversee maintenance needs of dormitories by reporting issues to Facilities and following up as needed. 

Oversee janitorial needs for dormitories by reporting issues to Facilities and following up as needed. 

Responding to emergency janitorial and maintenance issues as needed. 

Oversee and facilitate dorm check-in and check-out

Assist in making housing decisions in residence halls. 

  • Student Support and Engagement

Point of Contact for the RAM On-Call phone, as needed. RA is the first mediator. 

Respond to moderate and severe student conduct issues

Help implement student CARE plans

Attend weekly CARE and Conduct Meetings

  • General Responsibilities

Assist the Dean of Students (DOS) in the execution and supervision of all residence life needs 

Oversee and assist with anything on campus that will pertain to life in the residence halls

Have a “see a need; fill a need” approach to all aspects of Residence Life

N.B. RAMs are expected to be on campus and assist during emergencies such as hurricanes and the like. 

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s degree required

EXPERIENCE:  None required, but a background in residence life from a Catholic, Newman Guide school is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 


Exceptional time management and organization skills

Strong oral and written communication skills

Ability to work independently, collaboratively, and under supervision

Willingness to serve, and build relationships with the team.

Must possess strong initiative, leadership skills, organizational and project management skills, with the ability to multitask to manage a variety of projects and priorities, coordinating the actions of RAs, follow through on projects to timely completion, and demonstrate excellent judgment with attention to detail.


Experience with Microsoft 365 including Teams, Forms, Word, Outlook, Publisher, Excel, Power Point software experience.


Must enthusiastically support the University’s Catholic mission.

PHYSICAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Requires ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; the ability to stand, walk and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10 - 20 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, type and perform data entry, visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read technical information, ability to hear in order to answer telephones and to communicate verbally, and the ability to sit for extended periods of time. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors with minimal safety hazards, and requires seated, standing, and movement work.
