We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Director of Accounting to join our team and lead our accounting functions with a strong emphasis on construction and corporate financial operations. Position Summary The Director of Accounting will oversee all aspects of accounting, reporting, and compliance for both construction and corporate activities. Reporting directly to the SVP of Finance and Accounting, this individual will be a key financial leader, ensuring robust internal controls, accurate financial reporting, and alignment with strategic objectives. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role that requires a deep understanding of construction job cost accounting, GAAP, and corporate finance in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities Accounting Leadership Lead and manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, job cost accounting, and financial reporting. Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and preparation of consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP. Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance and operational efficiency. Construction Accounting Manage and oversee construction accounting processes including job costing, budget tracking, and WIP schedules. Work closely with project managers, development teams, and contractors to ensure timely and accurate recording of construction expenses and commitments. Coordinate draw processes, lien waivers, retainage tracking, and compliance with lender requirements. Corporate Accounting Ensure accurate and timely accounting for corporate entities, intercompany transactions, and related party arrangements. Provide financial analysis and insights to support corporate decision-making and strategic planning. Ensure timely tax filings and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations in coordination with external tax advisors. Team Management & Collaboration Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals. Collaborate cross-functionally with executive leadership, legal, development, construction and operations teams to support business objectives. Drive continuous improvement in accounting systems, processes, and reporting capabilities. Audit & Compliance Coordinate with external auditors for year-end audits and financial reviews. Maintain internal controls and ensure compliance with all financial regulations and standards. Assist with financial due diligence for acquisitions and strategic initiatives. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA required. Minimum of 15 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role. Significant experience in construction accounting and corporate accounting is required. Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting. Proficient in construction accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, Viewpoint, or similar) and general ERP/accounting systems. Exceptional analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and explain complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams. Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills. Hands-on, proactive, and detail-oriented approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Working Conditions Location: Aventura, FL – This position is fully onsite and requires a daily presence at the corporate office.
