POSITION SUMMARY:
This position assists in planning, managing, and implementing of all aquatics department safety programsÂ
and activities in assigned branch(es). Assists and participates in marketing and special events. EnsuresÂ
day-to-day program operations are delivered in accordance with operating standards for quality andÂ
safety. Assists in interviewing, scheduling and supervising qualified staff. Supports branch leadership inÂ
the implementation of the annual campaign.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
ï‚· Ensures aquatic safety programs and services meet community needs of assigned branch(es) toÂ
include supervising and growing existing program activities and establishing new programÂ
activities in support of membership retention and growth.Â
ï‚· Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.
ï‚· Builds effective and authentic relationships with participants and families.Â
ï‚· Develops and maintain relationships with parent groups and other agencies related to aquatic
safety program areas.
ï‚· Conducts regular/ frequent sanitation of all equipment (rescue and member used), and assignedÂ
areas as outlined by leadership.Â
ï‚· Supervises employees in assigned accountabilities, monitors program operations, schedules andÂ
verifies time sheets and actual hours worked.Â
ï‚· Ensures that Y program standards are met and safety procedures are followed at all times,Â
specifically the association’s child protection policies, child abuse and neglect guidelines, andÂ
proper reporting procedures.
ï‚· Organizes, cleans and puts away, all program materials. Reports damaged materials and takeÂ
them out of circulation. Responsible for pool maintenance.
ï‚· Demonstrates a working knowledge of Y mission, values, purpose, and goals. Strives for theÂ
highest standards of program excellence.
ï‚· Conduct monthly in-service training, monthly lifeguard and branch safety audtis.Â
ï‚· Notify supervisor staffing needs, assist in the interview process.
ï‚· Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.Â
ï‚· This position may be assigned to multiple branches.Â
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
ï‚· High school diploma required; Associate degree preferredÂ
Experience:Â
ï‚· Minimum of one (1) year of related experience working in aquatic programingÂ
ï‚· Minimum of one (1) year of aquatic instruction
ï‚· Minimum of one (1) year supervisory experience preferredÂ
Certification(s) and Requirements:
ï‚· Current CPR/AED Pro, O2 Management, Current First Aid
ï‚· Current Y lifeguarding or American Red Cross Lifeguarding, Instructor Certification required
ï‚· Water Safety Instructor or YMCA Swim Instructor certification preferred
Technical Skills and Knowledge:Â
ï‚· Excellent verbal and written communication skills, adequate speaking, hearing and writing skillsÂ
appropriate for interacting with both children and adults.
ï‚· Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people (children and parents) from all social andÂ
economic segments of the community
ï‚· Knowledge and maturity to observe children’s behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforceÂ
appropriate safety practices and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behaviormanagement techniques.
ï‚· Ability to manage the daily administrative, program-related and supervisory responsibilities of anÂ
aquatics program.
ï‚· Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
ï‚· Within 30 days of hire, completion of YMCA program-specific and Operational trainings: BloodÂ
Borne Pathogen, Ten Commandments of Effective Lifeguarding, Child Abuse Prevention andÂ
Recognition, Incident Reporting, Bullying, Active Shooter, Allergies, Driver Safety, Harassment,Â
Proper Lifting, New Employee Orientation and Program and Financial Operation TrainingsÂ

ï‚· Willingness and ability to be a mandated reporters for any signs or suspicion of child abuse andÂ
neglect. All employees are required to follow the child abuse and neglect reporting process:Â
completion of Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children protective servicesÂ
(696-Kids) and notifying your immediate supervisor, branch executive, risk management andÂ
human resources department (s).
