Summary - Job Responsibilities – Activities:

AMSC is looking for an experienced Electrical Engineer that can take projects and run with them to completion. The company has an interactive and outgoing team of Professional Engineering and Field Service Technicians with knowledge and skill sets that complement one another. The work we perform is engaging and ranges over a wide array of applications and customers.

Functions:

  • Design, review, and approve plans for power electronic-based systems.
  • Prepare products and equipment for testing.
  • Execute test plans.
  • Gather, compile, and summarize test data.
  • Generate test reports.
  • Design, build, troubleshoot, operate, and maintain test equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair products as required.
  • Work with the engineering team to review and implement design improvements, design changes, test requirements, and new designs according to specified requirements and standards.
  • Work with the engineering and field service teams to design, review, and implement work instructions and procedural changes.
  • Instruct engineers and field service personnel on:
    • Product theory and operation
    • Product testing
    • Operation of test equipment
    • Safety requirements, including safety equipment and safety protocols
  • Support field service activities.
  • Meet production goals.

Education - Experience:

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical field is required, PHD is a plus

• 5+ years of experience in the electrical power/electrical power equipment industry (hands-on field experience is a plus).

Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs:

  • BSEE (Power Systems and/or Power Electronics concentration preferred).
  • Circuits design and analysis background including power electronic circuits, three-phase power system circuits, and high-voltage circuits.
  • Ability to test, troubleshoot, and repair PCB circuits, small-scale electrical circuits, and large-scale electrical systems using fundamental concepts.
  • Demonstrated understanding of test methods for testing single- and three-phase power equipment ranging in voltages up to 50 kV and currents up to 5 kA.
  • Experience in an engineering environment operating, designing, analyzing, and specifying test equipment for products used in electrical power systems.
  • Proficiency with circuit simulation programs for time- and frequency-domain analysis, as well as word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and other standard office software.
  • Ability to work independently, perform job tasks in both office and field environments, and communicate clearly and effectively with other departments and clients.

Essential Functions / Physical Requirements:

  • Work in a manufacturing floor environment, including testing of large equipment (walking, standing, pulling, lifting, attaching high-current leads, and similar activities).
  • Perform wiring, electrical assembly work, and other manufacturing floor activities.
  • Occasionally lift test objects or components weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Perform occasional close-up work, such as inspecting PCB circuits and investigating component defects.
  • Infrequent outdoor work or travel
