Job Title: Admission Counselor

Department: Undergraduate Admission

Reports to: Senior Admission Counselor

General purpose: Functions as part of a team responsible for the promotion of the college and recruitment of qualified candidates to meet enrollment goals

Summary of Essential Functions:

  • Recruitment of qualified students to meet enrollment goals

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Recruitment Strategy Development

  • Assist in the development and execution of territory-based enrollment initiatives, track progress, and report results to UGA leadership.

  • Identify and target key markets and demographics to deepen engagement or expand into key territory/markets, as well as continually provide insights to the team and leadership on activities and engagement levels through interactions, reporting, and commenting in Slate.

Relationship Building

  • Establish and maintain relationships with high schools, community colleges, and other educational institutions.

  • Represent the university at college fairs, high school visits, community events, and other recruitment activities.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with prospective students, their families, high school counselors and staff, and alumni.

  • Responsibilities include a full schedule of recruitment at high schools, 2-year colleges, regional receptions, and portfolio days in assigned regions of the country throughout the calendar year.

Admissions Process Management

  • Counsel students and parents about admission, financial aid, and scholarship opportunities

  • Navigation and maintenance of the SLATE CRM system. To include updating student and organizational records, managing regional recruitment events, managing individual student interactions, and other duties as assigned

  • Evaluate first-year and transfer student application materials, including artwork portfolios, as a member of the Admission Committee

Data Analytics and Reporting

  • Track and analyze recruitment data to assess the effectiveness of recruitment outreach and engagement, adjusting as needed.

  • Assess assigned territories, prospective students, applicants, and admitted students to deepen relationships and inform understanding and projections pertinent to the likelihood to apply, deposit, or enroll.

Collaboration and Teamwork

  • Work closely with other departments to ensure a seamless admissions process.

  • Collaborate with academic departments and faculty to promote specific programs and initiatives.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with admissions and recruitment best practices

  • Assist with in-person and virtual recruitment events

  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills with keen attention to detail

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent public speaking skills

  • Ability to relate to people from a variety of backgrounds

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

  • Active US Driver's License

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with admissions CRM systems

  • Willingness to travel extensively, including evenings and weekends throughout the year

Reporting to this position: No direct reports

Conditions of Employment:

  • Successful candidates must complete a full satisfactory background check

  • Unusual Circumstances related to the position: requires travel, evening and/or weekend work, blackout periods

  • Position requires frequent off-site travel during the workday that cannot be reasonably accommodated through public transportation. Employee must be able to use a personal vehicle and maintain a valid driver’s license and required insurance

Physical demands and work environment:

  • Physical Demands: While performing the duties of job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. (may be adjusted depending on position)

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

  • Required training:  Exhibitions Department Installation Guide and Policy handbook, MICA Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment. (additional training may be added, SEE: EHS Manager training schedule)
