Brown Advisory is seeking a proactive, accountable, and forward-thinking leader to join the firm as an Asset Transfers Team Lead. This individual will oversee the daily operations of the Asset Transfers team, managing a group of professionals responsible for the accurate and timely movement of client assets across custodians.
The Asset Transfers Team Lead will be responsible for end-to-end oversight of account funding and transfer activity, including but not limited to ACAT and non-ACAT transfers, gifting, journals, and other complex asset movements. This role will drive execution quality, service levels, risk management, and continuous improvement across all transfer-related workflows.
This position requires a leader with an owner/operator mindset who can balance hands-on execution with strategic process improvement. The ideal candidate will partner closely with Operations, Private Client teams, Legal & Compliance, Technology, custodians, and leadership to enhance the client experience, reduce cycle times, and strengthen operational controls.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Invest in the development of team members through regular 1:1 meetings, coaching, and performance feedback.
- Set clear expectations, delegate effectively, and ensure accountability across the team.
- Manage hiring, onboarding, and training of new team members, including system access and workflow readiness.
- Foster a high-performing, client-focused team culture aligned with firm values.
- Oversee daily workflows to ensure accurate, timely processing of all asset transfer activity across custodians.
- Manage team performance against SLAs, turnaround times, and quality standards.
- Act as the primary escalation point for transfer issues, rejects, delays, and complex cases.
- Own resolution of exceptions and proactively communicate with stakeholders on status and outcomes.
- Maintain hands-on involvement in key processes to ensure quality and identify improvement opportunities.
- Partner with Client Service and Relationship Managers to ensure seamless account funding and transfer execution.
- Ensure clear, proactive communication on transfer status, delays, and requirements.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with custodians to improve transfer speed, transparency, and issue resolution.
- Serve as a key point of contact for escalations impacting advisors or clients.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and firm policies, including AML, custody rules, and transfer protocols.
- Identify control gaps, implement safeguards, and reduce operational risk in transfer processes.
- Maintain and enhance procedural documentation for all workflows.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and demonstrating control effectiveness.
- Analyze KPIs, SLAs, and transfer cycle times to identify bottlenecks and improvement opportunities.
- Drive automation and workflow enhancements (e.g., Pega, integrations, data tools) to increase efficiency and reduce manual touchpoints.
- Lead or contribute to strategic initiatives related to onboarding, funding, and asset movement.
- Improve scalability by standardizing processes and addressing capacity constraints.
- Develop and deliver regular reporting on volumes, cycle times, error rates, and SLA performance.
- Use data to manage team capacity, prioritize work, and inform decision-making.
- Provide updates to leadership on team performance, risks, and key initiatives.
- Partner with Legal, Compliance, Technology, Audit, and Operations teams to align processes and implement improvements.
- Participate in firm-wide initiatives and projects that impact onboarding and asset movement.
- Support globalization and multi-location alignment of transfer processes.
Qualifications:
- A bachelor’s degree and over 5 years of experience in the financial services industry are required. Leadership experience and an MBA or advanced degree are preferred.
- Demonstrated success in delivering process improvements, automation, and technology-driven solutions.
- Preferred experience of:
- PEGA systems, Confluence, and Smartsheet (workflow and documentation tools).
- Tableau (data visualization and performance metrics tracking)
- API-based solutions (process automation and system integration)
- Data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau
- Possess a global mindset and exhibits collaborative behavior.
- Strong decision-making, organizational, and written and verbal communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple locations and time zones, while maintaining strong performance under pressure.
- Capacity to maintain strict confidentiality and handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion.

Salary: $100-115k. Commensurate with experience and location. Does not include bonus or long-term incentive eligibility (if applicable).
