Researchers at Johns Hopkins University conduct clinical trials and clinical studies to discover new ways to prevent and treat diseases and other health problems. The Division of Pulmonary is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant who will provide routine support to the research team by helping implement steps and processes of a clinical research protocol.


The Clinical Research Assistant primary responsibilities will include leading participant recruitment for clinical research, answering study related questions, screening potential participants, data collection and entry, scheduling and maintaining study calendar and serving as a liaison between the participants and the different research team members. Reliable transportation is needed as field visits and different working sites are part of this position. Excellent communication skills and a high level of work ethic and professionalism are required in addition to maintaining a high level of motivation and positive attitude.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collect study data as required by the protocol, e.g., interviews, surveys, clinical procedures, etc.
  • Perform data entry and organize data in approved systems.
  • Gain and use a basic understanding of the clinical study background and rationale for communication with potential and current participants.
  • Assist with routine contact of study participants.
  • Other duties as assigned.


In addition to the duties described above

  • Obtain informed consent from eligible patients.
  • Escort patients through hospital during their research visit.
  • Disburse petty cash payments to study participants.
  • Attend recruitment and community outreach events; research home visits which may include deployment and pick up of environmental equipment, physical activity devices, sleep devices, and others. Reliable transportation is needed.
  • Maintain filing system for electronic and paper-based research records.
  • Maintain compliance with HIPAA and IRB regulations and guidelines.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Six months of work experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Reliable transportation is needed.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Experience in a clinical or clinical research environment.
