Job Description:

Maryland Environmental Service has an opening for an Environmental Field Technician to join the Technical and Environmental Services Group (TES) at the State Highway Administration Office of Materials Technology. Responsibilities include data collection and monitoring, while providing technical support for various SHA projects. Activities will be comprised mostly of fieldwork, with the potential for some office and desk activities under the direction of a manager or crew chief. Projects will be alongside SHA Right-Of-Ways or within SHA roadways and will focus on equipment and vehicle operation for the purposes of data collection, sampling, monitoring, and similar transportation data collection efforts. This position requires the ability to coordinate with multiple other peers and technical personnel.

This is primarily field based work, which may require the ability to work non-standard hours, overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and during adverse weather conditions. Overnight travel may be required.

Estimated Pay Range:

$45,666.23 - $62,791.65

Minimum Requirements:

Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a GED equivalency certification plus one year of experience in sampling, data collection geotechnical, GPR, environmental monitoring, or construction related field. Associates degree is a plus but not required. Must be able to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) pre-employment physical exam for this job.

The preferred candidate will have experience operating field vehicles and equipment, perform field analysis and sampling, record keeping duties for documentation and report preparation, which may include data entry, performing minor equipment maintenance and repair, completion of daily logs and tracking sheets. The preferred candidate will also have strong communication skills and the ability to work independently on assigned tasks.

Must have a valid license with less than 5 points.

This position is eligible for on-spot, contingent offers. Candidates who apply after an on-spot offer has been extended (including internal candidates) will not be considered unless the candidate who receives the on-spot, contingent offer does not complete the process to become an MES employee.

Any offer of employment will be contingent upon successfully completing required pre-employment screens, to include full background check, drug & alcohol screening, and position appropriate physical.
