We are seeking a Grants Associate who will manage a portfolio of grant activities under the purview of their assigned research administration department. This role will provide the final institutional review and submission of proposals and award acceptance, ensuring responsiveness to sponsor guidelines and compliance with institutional policies.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Manage the grants process from proposal submission through closeout for assigned departments/divisions.
- Review proposals for completeness and compliance.
- Write exception letters when needed.
- Approve and submit grant applications and Just-In-Time requests.
- Interpret grant guidelines and apply them to specific applications, awards and issues.
- Communicate with faculty and staff to provide instruction, assistance and advice on grant preparation and administration and to request corrections and resolve discrepancies.
- Review all prior approval requests and administrative updates such as no-cost extension requests, and JIT documentation.
- Serve as a resource to field questions from faculty and department research staff on sponsored projects issues.
- Interpret, communicate and provide detailed advice to faculty and staff regarding proposals, interpretation of rules, regulations and compliance issues, and assist in applying them to specific applications, awards, and issues.
- Know and understand sponsor and university policies. Take active role in trouble shooting and training departmental users of pre-award software and grant-related electronic submission sites such as grants.gov, eRA Commons, Assist, Workspace, Research.gov, and others.
- Assist in specialized training courses for departments as needed.
- Provide excellent customer service and contribute to process improvement.
- Cross train in a variety of functional areas for the purpose of job enrichment and expanding knowledge of research administration.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Three years of related experience.
- Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in research administration at a university, non-profit, state or federal agency or comparable environment.
- Understanding of research compliance regulations.
- Experience working with federal agency terms and conditions.
- Experience working with federal and university grant systems.
