Description

Job Summary

The OBGYN Nurse Navigator, RN provides comprehensive clinical coordination and patient support to assist in managing obstetrical care workflows and communication. This role serves as a central point of contact for OB patients, addressing in-basket messages, phone calls, triage coordination, follow-up care, and clinical navigation to ensure timely, accurate, and high-quality patient care.

The Nurse Navigator collaborates closely with physicians, triage nurses, and care teams to streamline care delivery, improve patient experience, and reduce provider workload while maintaining clinical excellence and continuity of care.

Essential Functions

  • Receive, manage, triage, and document all OB-related phone calls and electronic in-basket messages, providing timely and accurate patient responses
  • Communicate urgent concerns to triage nurses and on-call physicians as appropriate
  • Notify and copy patients’ physicians regarding care updates, triage referrals, and significant clinical concerns
  • Directly contact physician offices when immediate action is required
  • Track patient deliveries and conduct post-discharge outreach to ensure appropriate postpartum follow-up appointments, blood pressure monitoring, and screening for postpartum depression concerns
  • Perform or coordinate blood pressure check visits as indicated
  • Administer and bill for EPDS (Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale) screenings when applicable
  • Review Maternal-Fetal Medicine (MFM) consults to ensure appropriate follow-up care and adherence to recommendations
  • Review incoming transfer records for completeness, identify missing documentation, summarize key clinical information, and ensure proper scanning and documentation
  • Coordinate and potentially facilitate New OB (NOB) classes, either virtually or in person, as determined by department needs
  • Support NOB intake processes, particularly at the new medical office building (MOB) location

Additional Responsibilities

  • Support work-in clinical visits such as betamethasone administration, fetal heart tone checks, and non-stress tests (NSTs)
  • Assist with FMLA documentation processes
  • Facilitate breast pump prescription requests
  • Support induction scheduling coordination as assigned

Travel

No travel is expected for this position other than occasional travel to corporate sites regarding employee relations issues.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

Current Florida license as a Registered Nurse. One or more years of comprehensive experience in OBGYN triage.

Preferred Education and Experience

BSN degree preferred. Experience in obstetrics, care coordination, nurse navigation, or women’s health clinical settings

Excellent verbal and written communications with internal partners and external partners. Need to be sympathetic and provide emotional support to patient and caregiver(s), multi-task.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  • CPR certification within three months of employment. 
  • Strong clinical judgment and triage assessment skills
  • Excellent communication and patient education abilities
  • High attention to detail and strong documentation skills
  • Ability to manage high-volume communications efficiently
  • Strong organizational and care coordination skills
  • Proficiency with electronic health records and clinical communication systems
  • Ability to work collaboratively with providers and multidisciplinary care teams
