Job Description:

Summary

The Research Services Librarian provides research and circulation services in a combined service desk environment, provides customized library instruction for courses, and supports the college curriculum through collection development efforts. The position will be located at Peoria Campus.

Compensation for the PT Reference Librarian-Peoria is $23.99 - $27.58 an hour.

Essential Functions

  • Research materials and information via in-person or online requests by students, faculty, staff and community patrons.
  • Work with faculty to design library instruction for specialized courses; schedule and conduct orientation classes.
  • Instruct patrons in the use of the library materials and computer systems.
  • Participate in collection development and work with faculty to encourage their participation in the process.
  • Assist users in obtaining materials via interlibrary and interlibrary loan.
  • Assemble data for library reports.
  • Provide circulation services as needed.
  • Support Library events or programs in collaboration with other departmental staff. 
  • Participate in professional development opportunities within the college and statewide. 
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities. 

  • Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent degree. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills and decision-making skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a library for a year or more.
  • Experience working in a community college.
  • Experience using automated library services. 
  • Experience working as a teacher or tutor.
