The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) is seeking a Simulation Educator who will serve as the coordinator of simulation education for all programs within the SON. This position reports to the Associate Dean for Simulation & Immersive Learning, and works collaboratively with the simulation team, faculty, staff, and students. This is a hybrid position with at least 3-4 days of in-person work.


The educator will develop and continually evaluate, improve, and deliver high-quality simulation-based education consistent with the mission, values, and strategic goals of the JHSON, Johns Hopkins University, and the nursing profession.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities


Curriculum Design

  • Collaborate with faculty and the simulation team to integrate simulation-based education into curricula across clinical and lab courses, ensuring alignment with learning objectives, best practices, and accreditation standards.
  • Assist faculty in the design, development, and implementation of simulation activities, including the development of scenarios and tools to measure and track learning outcomes.
  • Integrate best practices and innovative approaches in healthcare simulation into program design.
  • In collaboration with faculty content experts, regularly update simulation content to align with current clinical standards and institutional priorities.


Program Coordination
  • Support the development of simulation schedules for all courses linked to simulation or the simulation lab, employing appropriate simulation methods, and optimizing available resources.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for simulation activities, policies, procedures, operations, and accreditation.
  • Collaborate with the Simulation Operations team to optimize resource allocation for efficient project execution.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to simulation activities, logistics and technology to ensure smooth program execution.
  • Facilitate simulation experiences as needed.
  • Support Standardized Patient (SP) coordination.
  • Participate in school committees related to simulation education, including simulation team meetings.
  • Represent the simulation program at all recruitment, orientation, and other special events.


Evaluation and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with quality standards set forth by accrediting bodies and the simulation center, utilizing data and industry trends to suggest improvements in curriculum development.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or Science related field
  • Five years of simulation training
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond a high school diploma/graduation equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Formal Healthcare Training (e.g., BS in healthcare field).
  • Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE) Certification
  • Proficiency in simulation technology and tools, including manikins, task trainers, and audiovisual systems.
