Our Tax Internship Program gives students hands-on exposure to public accounting while working directly with CPAs and tax professionals serving closely held businesses and high-net-worth individuals. Unlike larger firms, where interns often focus on administrative tasks, Gross Mendelsohn interns gain meaningful experience participating in tax preparation, research, and client engagements while developing practical skills that prepare them for a successful accounting career. Many of our interns return for additional internships or transition into full-time staff accountant roles after graduation. Internship Opportunities Gross Mendelsohn offers two internship programs designed to accommodate academic schedules. Tax Season Internship Approximately 25 hours per week Early January through April 15 Gain experience during the firm’s busiest and most educational time of year Summer Internship Approximately 25–30 hours per week Monday through Thursday schedule (long weekends) What You Will Do Tax Preparation Support Assist with preparation of individual and business tax returns Organize and review client-provided financial information and documentation Input financial data into the firm’s tax preparation software Assist with assembling completed tax returns Tax Research and Technical Support Conduct basic tax research with guidance from experienced staff Assist with gathering information needed to resolve tax issues Review financial data for accuracy and completeness Team Collaboration Support engagement teams with workflow and project tasks Maintain organized client files and documentation Participate in team meetings and professional development sessions What You Will Gain Hands-on experience working on real tax engagements Mentorship from experienced CPAs and firm leadership Exposure to the tax compliance and advisory process Professional development and networking opportunities Potential pathway to full-time employment after graduation Qualifications•    Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field •    Completion of Intermediate Accounting coursework preferred •    Junior or Senior standing preferred (motivated Sophomores encouraged to apply) •    Interest in pursuing a career in public accounting and CPA licensure •    Strong academic performance and professional attitude Skills and Competencies Technical Skills •    Basic understanding of accounting principles •    Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications •    Ability to quickly learn tax and accounting software Professional Skills •    Strong communication and interpersonal skills •    Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities •    Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment Work Ethic •    Self-motivated and eager to learn •    Positive attitude and willingness to take initiative •    Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines Why Join Gross Mendelsohn? •    Join a respected independent CPA and advisory firm committed to growth •    Work directly with experienced CPAs and firm leadership •    Gain meaningful public accounting experience early in your career •    Collaborative, team-oriented culture focused on mentorship •    Free parking at both Baltimore (Locust Point / McHenry Row) and Fairfax locations Work Environment This internship operates primarily in a professional office environment, where interns collaborate closely with tax professionals and participate in training and team meetings. Physical Requirements Ability to sit for extended periods, lift up to 20 pounds, and manage physical files and documentation as needed.
