This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by proficiently performing technical skills and providing assistance to surgeons, anesthesia personnel, registered nurses, and other professionals in the operating room. Will also function proficiently as a first scrub in one additional specialty and may function in the second circulator role.Job Description
Job Duties
- Demonstrates the required knowledge and technical skills to independently perform core and specialty procedures.
- Anticipates the expected progression of events and modifies the plan accordingly.
- Demonstrates an increased level of prioritization.
- Possesses knowledge of multiple types of equipment.
- Possesses knowledge of contents of instrument trays in at least one service.
- Follows Mercy's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Department Specific Duties

- Professionally guides RN circulators in their role and functions as second circulator.
- Serves as orientation assistant for Level I Tech and models positive behavior.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Must meet Level I criteria
- Demonstrates knowledge of techniques used by various surgeons for various procedures
- Maintains technical skill level and adapts to changes in surgical technique and operative intervention modalities.
- Demonstrates a constructive approach during all interactions with staff and nurse manager toward the organization
- Completes work assignments on time/readily accepts assignments, as observed by nurse manager
Education
- Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or equivalent experience required.
Licensure, Certification, Registration
- Currently certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support in accordance with the American Heart Association required.
