JOB SUMMARY:

This position is for a Tooling Design Technician to assist in the development of tooling and fixturing, support implementation of improved equipment and procedures, and create CNC programs for a variety of equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the Getman tooling/fixture inventory; work with manufacturing and engineering to identify needs for changes, repairs, consolidation, or obsolescence.  Create CAD drawings, source common materials where possible, and manage manufacturing of custom tools and fixtures on the shop floor. 
  • Create designs for custom tools and fixtures, such as weld fixtures or tooling setups, mill fixtures, or assembly tools and related jigs, dies, etc. to efficiently create end products that conform to design tolerances and specifications.
  • Support the engineering change process through the implementation tooling updates and routing changes.
  • Examine specifications, engineering blueprints, tool orders, and shop data and work with engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures, and cost.
  • Collaborate with engineering during the development process to provide feedback and make manufacturing process recommendations using current methods and equipment.
  • Make decisions as to the appropriate manufacturing processes for various products based upon their complexity and usage.  Recommend updates to existing routing and procedures as needed.
  • Provide support to CAD/CAM for new and existing CNC programs using Mastercam and other software packages as necessary.
  • Support tooling implementation through the creation of new setup drawings and standard work.
  • Identify shortfalls in existing processes and equipment.  Assist with the identification and implementation of new technologies with a drive for quality, adaptability, and throughput.
  • Modify tool designs according to trial or production data to improve tool life or performance.
  • All other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Two to five years related experience and/or training; experience in a manufacturing role dealing with CAD/CAM software and tooling setups.
  • Understanding of welding and machining manufacturing processes and CAD/CAM software.
  • Knowledgeable in SolidWorks.
