The Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry business develops and manufactures leading-edge instruments, consumables, and software solutions for customers working in the analytical sciences (routine testing markets) and scientific research. We play a crucial role in various scientific fields, including chemistry, pharmaceuticals, forensics, environmental analysis, and biochemistry, among others.

How will you make an impact?

The role of a Lab Scientist Application is to provide scientific expertise and support to customers, sales teams, and internal partners within CMD (Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division) to resolve complex analytical challenges by utilizing chromatography and mass spectrometry techniques. Primary responsibilities are to support the commercial field sales team by conducting small molecule LCMS product demonstrations related to (but not limited to) qualitative and quantitative nominal mass and high resolution accurate mass experiments across multiple application areas and serving as a point of contact for the local product demonstration laboratory.  Additional responsibilities include providing pre-sales support to our chromatography sales team at customer sites to position them for successful wins and enabling the success of our customers through post-sales training and application support.

What will you do?

  • Product Demonstrations: Conduct product demonstrations to customers on the accurate use, product features, functionality, application of instruments and software, and best practices. Understand customer’s motivation, success criteria and pain points and be able to effectively communicate customer feedback to the product development team regarding customer needs, product performance, and potential improvements.
  • Understand the critical steps in the demo process and how to address them, including:
  • Pre-Demo Qualification
  • Demo Qualification
  • Internal alignment
  • Demo agreement with customer
  • Demo report
  • Demo result evaluation with customer
  • Internal demo evaluation
  • Application Optimization: Collaborate with customers and internal teams to customize applications and methodologies. This includes troubleshooting, method development, and data interpretation. May be responsible for collecting data from customer experiments or field trials, analyzing the data using statistical methods, and providing insights or recommendations based on the findings. They should be able to interpret scientific data accurately and communicate the results effectively. Occasionally helps to resolve and/or escalates customer issues & complaints.
  • Technical Presentations: Create and deliver presentations to highlight the capabilities and benefits of solutions for various applications. Effectively communicate complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Drive Collaboration: Work cross-functionally with internal teams, including marketing and sales, to support strategic execution of the entire demo process.
  • Scientific Support: Stay informed about the latest scientific literature, methodologies, and regulatory requirements. Acts as a trusted expert to our customers to increase customer satisfaction and loyalty which contributes to the overall success of the business. Provide scientific support and counsel to internal teams and customers and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Leadership: Independently prioritize and lead team projects and mentor junior colleagues. Act as a consultant for specific market segments of expertise. Potentially acts as a backup and deputy to lead calls or meetings on request.

How will you get here?

  • A master’s degree (or higher) in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related scientific field and/or equivalent work experience.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on technical experience with chromatography and mass spectrometry instruments, software, data analysis, and techniques.
  • Expert competency in qualitative and quantitative LCMS workflows and associated sample preparation techniques is required.
  • Experience with Environmental, Industrial, or Food Safety applications or workflows are highly desirable.

  • This position may require up to 25% travel.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Illinois is $93,800.00–$140,675.00.
