Operator (I)

Department: Yard

Reports To: General Manager

Status: Non-Exempt

Description: Safely and efficiently operating a variety of equipment and responsible for inspecting, providing preventative maintenance and reporting any equipment concerns to management.

Duties and Responsibilities: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Operates machinery to move inventory throughout the facility in a safe manner without damaging equipment, inventory or company property.*
  • Performs required inspections and basic maintenance of equipment to ensure safe operating conditions.*
  • Dismantle vehicles with specified equipment
  • Crush vehicle inventory
  • Load inventory into appropriate facilities, containers, trucks or trailers
  • Keep all equipment clean and functioning
  • Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment, and clean, lubricate and refill the equipment as necessary
  • Use various pieces of equipment to perform fine grading and finishing, sloping and banking, backfilling, demolition, ditching, loading, excavating and stockpiling
  • Only move/handle vehicles with an inventory sticker"

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience or knowledge in the automotive industry.

Certificates and Licenses:

Valid driver’s license. Forklift certification. Training and certification available.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. For heavier merchandise lifting devices and/or assistance is required.
