Job Details

Purpose of the job:
Purchase raw and packaging materials necessary for the manufacture of composite board and laminate flooring as needed to meet the production schedule and forecast. And/or consumables, technical parts for storeroom stock and special projects. Must be self-starter who can work independently with minimal supervision and adapt to changing and/or additional duties as necessary.

Key responsibilities:
  • Follow all established SOPs for Purchasing Department posted on SharePoint.
  • Purchase the highest quality merchandise at the lowest price and in correct amounts.
  • Negotiate costs of material and service contracts as well as terms and conditions.
  • Prepare purchase orders with appropriate cost, delivery and payment terms.
  • Research and evaluate new vendors based on price, quality, selection, service, support, availability, reliability, delivery and payment terms.
  • Establish and maintain vendor relationships, visit vendor production facilities, and resolve vendor claims as they arise.
  • Maintain raw material purchasing grids monthly, and monitor changes affecting supply and demand, tracking market conditions, price trends and raw material price indices.
  • Cooperate and coordinate with production, planning, shipping, receiving, warehousing, accounts payable, inventory/costing, and maintenance departments as needed.
  • Assist with new product trials and cost reduction initiatives as needed.

Professional Experience:
  • Must have at least 5 years in purchasing or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing and production processes, quality control, costs and other techniques for maximizing manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Contract negotiation experience
  • Must be collaborative and have a proven track record of positive team player characteristics.
  • Demonstrated success in accountability and the ability to perform in stressful environment with multiple production schedule changes.

Strong communication skills, including the ability to interact with personnel at all levels effectively through written, spoken and presentation methods.
  • Must be an active listener as well as show the ability to influence others during key decision making.
  • German language skills desirable, but not necessary

Education:
  • Bachelors Degree in related field (more than 5 years of purchasing experience may be considered in lieu of Bachelors degree)
  • ASCM certifications or documented progress towards certification a plus
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint a must - SAP experience highly desirable 6.

Mobility and Physical Requirement profile:
Work location is Barnwell. This job operates in a manufacturing environment. Occasional travel to vendor and training locations. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk; use hands/fingers, and may occasionally need to lift objects up to 25 pounds. This is a full-time position, and general hours of work and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position will also occasionally require evening and weekend duties, as necessitated by issues that naturally arise in a manufacturing setting that operates on a 24/7 basis.
