Lead, Support, and Strengthen Special Education Services

Mooseheart Child City & School is seeking a dedicated and collaborative Special Education Coordinator to help guide and support high-quality services for students with disabilities. This leadership role works closely with teachers, administrators, related service providers, and families to ensure that every student receives the individualized support they need to succeed.

The Special Education Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, supporting instructional best practices, and fostering collaboration among staff and families. This position is ideal for an experienced special education professional who values teamwork, problem-solving, and student-centered decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

Program Oversight & Compliance

  • Ensure special education services comply with IDEA, Section 504, state regulations, and school policies

  • Monitor timelines and documentation for:

    • Student evaluations and reevaluations

    • IEP development and annual reviews

    • Progress monitoring and reporting

  • Review IEPs to ensure compliance, clarity, and alignment with student needs

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records

IEP & Case Management Support

  • Support teachers and service providers with:

    • IEP development and implementation

    • Service scheduling and coordination

    • Progress monitoring and data collection

  • Facilitate or participate in IEP meetings, eligibility meetings, and problem-solving discussions

  • Assist teams in addressing concerns related to services, placement, and accommodations

Instructional Leadership & Staff Support

  • Provide coaching and guidance to special education teachers, paraprofessionals, and general education staff

  • Support the implementation of:

    • Evidence-based instructional practices

    • Classroom accommodations and modifications

    • Inclusive instructional models and co-teaching

  • Lead professional development and training related to special education procedures, behavior supports, and inclusive practices

Collaboration & Communication

  • Serve as a liaison among administrators, teachers, service providers, families, and community partners

  • Build strong relationships with families through clear communication and collaborative problem-solving

  • Partner with related service providers (OT, PT, SLP, social work, psychology) to ensure coordinated student support

Behavior & Student Support

  • Support teams in developing and monitoring:

    • Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs)

    • Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)

  • Collaborate with MTSS teams to align Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports with IEP services

  • Assist with problem-solving and crisis response for students with complex needs

Data, Systems & Continuous Improvement

  • Analyze student data to identify trends and opportunities for program improvement

  • Support scheduling and staffing decisions to ensure effective service delivery

  • Partner with administration to evaluate program effectiveness and ensure compliance readiness

Qualifications

Required

  • Valid state certification in Special Education or related field

  • Master's degree in Special Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field

  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and special education regulations

  • Experience working with IEP teams and special education processes

Preferred

  • Previous special education leadership or coordinator experience

  • Experience supporting inclusive practices and MTSS frameworks

  • Strong facilitation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills

  • Experience supporting staff development or instructional coaching

Work Environment
