Job Description
- System Testing:Â Testing electrical circuits, components, and joints for proper functioning and safety.
- Compliance & Safety:Â Adhering to safety protocols, EPA regulations for refrigerant handling, and local codes.
- Customer Service:Â Discussing system issues with clients, recommending improvements, and documenting work performed.Â
- Installation & Maintenance:Â Installing new heating and cooling systems and performing routine maintenance (e.g., cleaning ducts, changing filters).
- Diagnostics & Repair:Â Troubleshooting malfunctions and repairing or replacing defective parts, such as motors, compressors, and thermostats.
- Education/Certification:Â High school diploma or GED; completion of an HVAC training program is often preferred.
- Certifications:Â EPA certification for handling refrigerants is required, with NATE certification often preferred.
- Technical Knowledge:Â Proficiency in reading blueprints, electrical diagrams, and using tools of the trade.
- Physical Stamina:Â Ability to work in tight spaces, lift heavy equipment, and work in extreme temperatures.Â
Technicians often work in residential, commercial, or industrial settings, frequently responding to emergency calls in hot or cold weather conditions.Â
