Outpatient Rehabilitation Technician


MAIN FUNCTION:

Assists in carrying out patient-related activities which are pre-determined for each patient and assigned by the professional physical therapist. Responsible for the preparation, application, and clean-up of the hydrotherapy area. The Rehab Services Technician reports to the Clinical Coordinator and receives direction from the Staff Physical Therapists.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


** 1. Assists with patient treatment preparations:


  1. Informs the therapist of patient's arrival in department.

  1. Assists patients in filling out any forms before being seen by therapists.

  1. Assists the patient to treatment area.

  1. Assists the patient in dressing and undressing as needed.

  1. Assists the patient in positioning for use of equipment or application of modalities.

** 2. Assists the physical therapist in administering hydrotherapy.


** 3. Under the direction of the therapist, assists patients in the safe practice of activities related to the development of strength and endurance.


** 4. Under the direction of the therapist, assists patients in ambulatory training procedures as assigned.


** 5. Assembles equipment and accessories.


** 6. Performs/monitors selected procedures and/or programs which are commensurate with his/her training and are assigned to him/her by the physical therapist.


** 7. Keeps treatment areas/gym set up neat and orderly.


  1. Maintains established levels of supplies and directs any need for supplies to the attention of the Physical Therapist or Clinical Coordinator.




  1. Strips treatment tables of used sheets and pillow cases and replaces with clean covering.

  1. Assists patients to and from the department, as necessary, or arranges for Volunteer Department assistance.

** 11. Participates in educational programs and In-Service meetings.


  1. Performs duties as assigned in absence of secretary with appropriate cross-training.

  1. The employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed.

  1. Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.

  1. Provides age appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

  1. Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health. Participates to improve scores.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in health field preferred, but not necessary.


EXPERIENCE:

One year but less than three. An on-the-job training program for the Rehab Services Technician may be established when there is a demonstrated need.


CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION (CPR) REQUIREMENTS:

Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Appreciable physical effort or strain; occasionally repetitive efforts may involve lifting, pushing, and pulling. Must be able to lift at least thirty (30) pounds independently and at least one-hundred fifty (150) pounds with assistance of another person.


EXPOSURE CATEGORY:

Category II. Tasks that involve no exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but employment may require performing unplanned Category I tasks.
