Job Duties:

  • Patrol assigned area.
  • Stop cars for violations
  • Investigate loitering.
  • Make arrests and issue citations.
  • Respond to accidents, providing first aid and emergency services until paramedics arrive.
  • Respond to dispatched calls.
  • Conduct traffic, criminal and other investigations.
  • Prepare detailed and well written reports.
  • Testify in court in response to subpoenas

Shift: 12-hour rotating shifts

Qualifications:

  • At least 21 years old
  • Citizen of the United States or a permanent resident
  • Have a minimum of a high school diploma or a high school equivalency recognized by the State of Louisiana
  • Must have one of the following
    • at least one year of experience as a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certified law enforcement officer in a full-time position, whose job duties included armed duty with the power of arrest; or
    • Louisiana Law Enforcement POST Certification; or
    • 1 year of continuous active duty in the military; or
    • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college or university; or
    • 80+ semester hours from a regionally accredited college or university in a Bachelor's Degree program

Compensation and Benefits:

  • $46,755 starting annual salary

  • Retirement Plan -- Louisiana Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund is a defined benefit plan that allows employee contributions on a pre-tax basis. Employees contribute 10.25 % of their salaries to the retirement plan. Members do not pay social security (FICA) tax but they do pay Medicare tax.
  • Louisiana Deferred Compensation Plan is a voluntary retirement saving vehicle. Employees may choose to contribute tax-free dollars to save for retirement. The plan is similar to a 401(k) plan offered in private industry, but there is no employer match for employee contributions. It is a 457 plan.
  • Paid-time-off (PTO) leave for vacations, illnesses, personal needs.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

Disqualifiers:



  • Felony convictions

  • Convictions of perjury, false statements, or moral turpitude as an adult

  • Illegal marijuana use in the last 12 months

  • Illegal use of prescription drugs in the last 24 months

  • Any use of illegal drugs (other than marijuana) in the last 24 months
