Field Operations Supervisor

As part of Marmon Rail (a Berkshire Hathaway company), we operate a growing network of facilities and field service teams across North America, supporting customers in transportation, energy, and manufacturing.Â
We are looking for a Field Operations Supervisor to lead site-level operations, drive performance, and build high-performing teams. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader who thrives in fast-paced environments and is passionate about safety, quality, and operational excellence.Â
What You’ll Do:Â
This role is responsible for overseeing daily railcar repair operations while leading a skilled workforce and ensuring alignment with customer expectations.Â
On any given day, you will:Â
- Lead site operations with a strong focus on safety, quality, and productivityÂ
- Conduct daily site walks to monitor work progress, identify risks, and ensure complianceÂ
- Drive performance against key metrics including turnaround time, cost efficiency, and customer satisfactionÂ
- Manage staffing through recruitment, scheduling, training, and workforce planningÂ
- Facilitate daily team huddles (toolbox talks) to align on safety and production goalsÂ
- Ensure accurate and timely repair tracking, reporting, and customer updatesÂ
- Monitor and report KPIs including productivity, turnaround, and cost metricsÂ
- Participate in and support safety and quality auditsÂ
- Oversee billing accuracy and timely completionÂ
- Support employee development, onboarding, and training initiativesÂ
- Lead and reinforce continuous improvement and visual management practicesÂ

What We’re Looking For:Â
We’re seeking a strong, hands-on leader with a passion for safety, team development, and operational performance.Â
Requirements:Â
- High School diploma or equivalentÂ
- Previous supervisory or leadership experienceÂ
- Strong knowledge of safety practices and quality standardsÂ
- Ability to manage teams, schedules, and production prioritiesÂ
- Strong communication and problem-solving skillsÂ
- Experience working with KPIs, reporting, and operational metricsÂ
Preferred:Â
- Bachelor’s Degree or some collegeÂ
- Experience in railcar repair, manufacturing, or industrial environmentsÂ
- Background in multi-site or customer-facing operationsÂ
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologiesÂ
Supervisory Responsibility:Â
- Directly manages site employees and daily operationsÂ
- Responsible for hiring, training, performance management, and employee developmentÂ
- Leads disciplinary actions and conflict resolution in accordance with company policiesÂ
Work Environment:Â
- Combination of field and office-based workÂ
- Regular time spent in a railcar repair facility environmentÂ
- Exposure to industrial conditions (noise, weather, equipment movement)Â
- Physical activity including walking, climbing, and light liftingÂ
- May require extended hours based on operational needsÂ

- Shift: 6:30 AM – 3 PM M-FÂ
- Compensation:Â Base Salary: $85,000 - $93,710
