Position Summary: The Corps Ministries & Program Director is responsible for assisting Corps Officer in developing, implementing, evaluating and delivering programs and ministry opportunities which benefit participants emotional, physical, and spiritual health in support of the ministry of The Salvation Army. The director will also secure and facilitate building renters and report all funds received and statistics to Corps Officers or Administrative Assistant.

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Help identify, develop, recruit potential leaders for corps programming.
  • Assist Corps Officers with Worship, Bible Studies and outreach strategies.
  • Collaborate with Corps Officer to plan, conduct, and evaluate weekly corps programming, summer day camp and Vacation Bible School (VBS)
  • Assist Corps Officer to plan, conduct and evaluate Corps Spiritual Programming (Jr. Soldiers, Corps Cadets, Men’s & Women’s Ministries)
  • Utilize all program volunteers provided by the Volunteer Coordinator
  • Interview, train and supervise paid Day Camp counselors & volunteers
  • Conduct The Salvation Army Safe From Harm training for all Day Camp hires
  • Provide necessary stats & information to Corps Officer necessary for program reporting to DHQ.
  • Collaborate with Corp Officer to identify Community Care Ministry opportunities
  • Faithfully utilize and record all necessary program expenditures and provide records to Corps Officer.
  • Collaborate with Corps Officer to identify any potential community agency/organization collaborations related to current Corps Programming.
  • Prepare and present a summary of events and planned activities at Corps Council and Advisory Council Mtg.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

 

Education/Experience: 

  • High School Diploma or GED is required, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
  • An undergraduate degree in Christian ministry or a similar discipline is preferred.
  • 4 years of experience in working in or leading community centers and/or community center programming is preferred.

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities: 

  • Must attend the corps worship services, programs, facility rentals as needed, and Corps/Advisory council meetings on a regular basis.
  • Must be able to communicate Biblical messages, Bible Studies and devotionals in a teaching/church setting, appropriate to the ages and understanding of the participants
  • Ability to drive a 12 passenger or transit van.

Computer Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office 365
  • Working knowledge of TEAMS and SharePoint
  • Willingness to learn new software as needed

Certificates and Licenses: 

  • Complete Safe From Harm training, and keep current as needed
  • Must have and maintain a current valid chauffeur’s license and pass the Salvation Army Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR); or gain it within 30 days if hire

  • Paid Time Off which includes:
    • Sick days begin accruing the first of the month following 30 days of employment and you may begin to use accrued sick days once available.

    • Vacation begins accruing the first of the month after one full calendar month after employment begins, and you may begin to use vacation days after (90) days of employment. 
    • The accrual rate is based upon years of service and approved hours worked.
    • You will receive up to 2 personal days per year based on date of hire.
    • Birthday off with pay.  
    • Paid holidays are effective immediately.
