Job Summary:

Performs safe operation of non-CDL vehicles for Flex & Move according to defined routes and schedules. Related work as apparent or assigned. Work performed under general supervision of an Operations Supervisor. This is a United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Safety Sensitive position and is subject to mandatory, random drug and alcohol testing pursuant to Federal and TACC regulations and policies.


Qualification Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Essential Functions:

  • Transports passenger’s door-to-door/curb-to-curb via Flex & Move according to routes, schedules, and local policies. Complies with local traffic regulations.
  • Assists and interacts with passengers as necessary and regulates vehicle heating, lighting and ventilation for passenger comfort. Maintains good relationships with public.
  • Ensure passengers are properly secured and provide assistance with all vehicle entries and exits. Follow all ADA guidelines/regulations as necessary. 
  • Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections. 
  • Complies with all TACC safety policies/procedures for reporting safety events, and mechanical concerns. 
  • Collects and records cash and ticket fares with accuracy. 

 

Physical Requirements:


Vision & Hearing

  • Corrected vision of at least 20/40 in each eye (federal DOT minimum)
  • Ability to distinguish colors per DOT requirements 
  • Hearing sufficient to perceive a forced whisper at 5 feet (with or without a hearing aid), per DOT standards


Strength & Mobility

  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Repetitive use of arms/hands for steering
  • Frequent use of legs/feet for pedals (gas, brake)
  • Ability to twist, turn, and check mirrors frequently for situational awareness
  • Climbing in/out of the vehicle multiple times per shift
  • Lifting requirements vary but often include ability to lift 25-50 lbs.
  • Bending/kneeling to secure wheelchairs or mobility devices


Cardiovascular & General Health

  • Must pass a DOT physical exam every 24 months (more frequently if certain health conditions are present)


 

 

Working Conditions:


Schedule

  • Shift may include early mornings, late nights, holidays
  • Shift bidding by seniority
  • Overtime can be expected


Environment

  • Extended periods alone in the driver's seat, but with constant public interaction
  • Exposure to varying weather when boarding/alighting, or during breakdowns
  • Restricted workspace in the driver's compartment
  • Noise exposure (engine, traffic, passengers, radio communications)
  • Possibility of exposure to difficult passenger behavior
  • Routine vehicle exhaust exposure


Physical/Mental Demands

  • Constant vigilance required — watching traffic, pedestrians, cyclists, passengers boarding/alighting, and vehicle systems simultaneously
  • Repetitive stress on shoulders, neck, and lower back from prolonged sitting and mirror-checking
  • High cognitive load managing schedules, fare disputes, accessibility needs, and safety simultaneously

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid chauffeur license in the State of Michigan


Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to successfully complete PASS training within 90 days of hire 
  • Must be able to possess a DOT card upon hire
  • Must have negative DOT – FTA pre-employment drug screen
