Job Summary

The purpose of this position is to ensure precise measurement and validation of parts using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), adhering to customer drawings and specifications. The CMM Programming Technician is responsible for programming, operating, and maintaining CMM equipment, contributing to the overall quality assurance processes. This role demands a high level of expertise in computer numerical control (CNC) programming, CAD/CAM/CAE systems, fixture designing, GD&T and a strong foundation in metrology and quality control practices.



Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 


1. Programming and Operation:


  • Program and operate CMM equipment to measure parts according to customer drawings and specifications. Programming software is CMM Manager.
  • Technical interpretation of complex engineering drawings, blueprints and GD&T.
  • Utilize advanced computer numerical control (CNC) programming skills in conjunction with CAD/CAM/CAE software to create or modify measurement programs.
  • Apply expertise in metrology, quality control, and quality inspection to ensure the highest levels of precision and accuracy.
  • Engage in reverse engineering processes when required, to improve or troubleshoot existing designs.
  • Supporting role in World Class Machining Initiative.

      2.  Equipment Setup and Maintenance:


  • Design and implement custom fixtures for CMM operations to enhance measurement accuracy and efficiency.
  • Set up equipment, including selecting fixtures and appropriate programs for measurement tasks.
  • Calibrate measuring equipment, including gauge blocks and pins, as required.
  • Responsible for CMM maintenance and calibration.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of equipment and work area.
  • Verify accuracy of all measuring equipment regularly.


3. Data Verification and Recording:

  • Generate detailed inspection reports and maintain records including PPAP documentation (Levels 1-5).
  • Produce AS9102 FAIRs.
  • Analyze and report on measurement data.
  • Verify and record data accurately into the ERP computer system, manufacturing router, logs, databases, and control charts, following work instructions.
  • Generate necessary paperwork for nonconforming materials as per quality system(s).


  Qualifications: 

 

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a CMM Programming role or similar.
  • Proficient in computer numerical control (CNC) programming.
  • Advanced knowledge of CAD/CAM/CAE systems.
  • Expertise in fixture designing for manufacturing or measurement processes.
  • Advanced understanding and application of GD&T principles.
  • Strong background in metrology, quality control, and quality inspection.
  • Experience in reverse engineering processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Work Environment and Physical Demands: 

 

  • Works in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery and moderate noise.
  • Regular standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity and close visual attention required for precision work.
