JOB SUMMARY
Position Title: Legal Advocate
Program: DVLC/Domestic Violence Services
Classification: Non-Exempt/Full-Time
Location: DVS Legal Center – Downtown Lancaster
The Legal Advocate provides person-centered, trauma-informed direct services to survivors of domestic violence by advocating on their behalf and assisting them in navigating the civil legal system.

Duties & Responsibilities:
Direct Client Services:Â
- Provides clients with appropriate legal options, including filing for a Protection from Abuse (PFA) matter on their behalf.Â
- Accompany clients to PFA court and other legal proceedings.Â
- Provides appropriate referrals related to client needs and assists them in accessing services.Â
Accountability and Compliance:Â
- Accurately records services provided into client database including number of hours spent on cases.Â
- Assists with record-keeping and compiling relevant statistical information per requirements.Â
- Completes 10 hours of domestic violence/victims’ service training annually.Â
Teamwork:Â
- Works collaboratively with other DVS and DVLC staff to address client’s holistic needs.Â
- Participate in staff and case review meetings.Â
- Works collaboratively with courthouse offices engaged in the PFA process.Â
Advocacy:Â
- Advocates on behalf of victims of domestic violence within the legal system.Â
*Performs other related duties as assigned.Â
Â
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, criminal justice or related field preferred.Â
- Equivalent combination of education and experience accepted.Â
- Proficient with Microsoft Office programs and web-based applications.Â
- Commitment to working with people of diverse backgrounds and members of culturally specific and traditionally underserved communities.
