JOB SUMMARY: 

Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse, Patient Care Technicians are tasked with assisting in the direct daily care of patients. Patient Care Technicians help patients with Activities of Daily Living and are also responsible for monitoring and reporting changes in condition to their supervisor.  Shift available: 7p-7a



JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Qualification Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent is preferred but not required. 
  • Current BLS certification. (Must obtain within 90 days of hire).

Experience:

  • Previous Patient Care Technician or other clinical experience is preferred but not required.

Language Skills:

  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Additional languages preferred.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:          

  •  Assists patients with care, including bathing, grooming, hygiene, feeding, and placement of adaptive equipment.  
  •  Assists with lifting, positioning, and transporting patients.
  •  Applying and discontinuing telemetry monitor per physician order 
  • Obtaining and documenting daily weights 
  • Measures and records heights, weights, temperatures, pulses, respirations, blood pressures, and graphs results.
  • Takes and records patient vital signs accurately.
  • Assesses patients for skin abnormalities and helps prevent skin breakdowns.
  • Performs restorative and rehabilitative procedures as instructed.
  • Provides range of motion exercises as instructed.
  • Empties urinary drainage bags, records amounts, and reports irregularities to the nurse.
  • Assists with bowel and bladder functions.
  • Provides daily catheter and perineal care.
  • Tracks intake and output when indicated.
  • Collects, labels, and promptly delivers specimens to the lab.
  • Demonstrates patience and tact with residents, families, and staff.
  • Reports patient condition changes to the nurse immediately, such as abnormal vital signs, falls, or changes in mental status.
  • Provides accurate reports of care and patient responses to the nurse.
  • Provides post-mortem care.
  • Regularly checks on patients unable to express needs.
  • Distributes trays and feeds patients, ensuring proper positioning for meals.
  • Delivers and documents snacks and supplements throughout the day.
  • Repositions bedfast patients every 2 hours.
  • Keeps patient water pitchers clean, filled with fresh water, and within easy reach.
  • Ensures call lights are within reach and answers them promptly.
  • Keeps patients dry by changing gowns, clothing, linens, etc.
  • Changes bed linens, handles them according to infection control guidelines, and makes beds.
  • Prepares patient rooms prior to patient arrival.
  • Maintains cleanliness of patient units, central bathing areas, treatment and supply rooms, and other relevant areas.
  • Demonstrates awareness of hazards and ensures safe areas for patients.
  • Participates in and receives nursing reports upon reporting for duty.
  • Establishes priorities and organizes work throughout the shift.
  • Cleans and returns instruments and equipment to their proper place.
  • Assists in orienting new personnel.
  • Removes trash and linen from patient care areas at the end of each shift.
  • Takes call rotations.
  • Performs clerical duties.
  • Performs other job-related duties as requested.
