Job Summary:

The Electrical Maintenance Technician at Portobello America is responsible for ensuring that all electrical systems, machinery, and equipment in the production process are maintained and operating efficiently. This role includes diagnosing electrical issues, performing preventive maintenance, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The technician will play a key role in minimizing downtime and improving the overall efficiency of the plant’s electrical systems.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Electrical Systems Maintenance:
    • Perform routine and preventive maintenance on electrical systems, machinery, and equipment, including motors, control panels, conveyors, and press machines.
    • Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues in production equipment, including diagnosing and fixing faults with sensors, control circuits, and wiring systems.
    • Ensure proper functioning of PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) systems and other automated electrical control systems.
  • Machinery and Equipment Support:
    • Support the maintenance team in diagnosing and resolving issues related to the electrical components of production machinery, including kilns, polishing machines, grinders, and conveyors.

 

    • Assist in the installation of new machinery and electrical systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and plant specifications.
    • Update and calibrate electrical components in line with manufacturing process requirements.
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Adhere to and enforce electrical safety procedures in compliance with company policies and local/national regulations.
    • Conduct safety inspections on all electrical installations and equipment, ensuring that lockout/tagout procedures are followed during maintenance work.
    • Collaborate with the safety team to identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of all electrical maintenance activities, including work orders, service logs, and repair documentation.
    • Assist in creating and updating electrical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for plant equipment and ensure adherence to them.
    • Provide regular reports to supervisors on the status of electrical equipment, repairs, and maintenance needs.
  • Process Improvement:
    • Identify areas for improvement in electrical systems to reduce downtime, improve efficiency, and lower energy consumption.
    • Collaborate with the engineering and production teams to optimize electrical system performance for maximum production output.
    • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives, such as energy efficiency upgrades and predictive maintenance projects.
  • High-Voltage Equipment:
    • Inspect and maintain high-voltage equipment critical to manufacturing, ensuring they operate at optimal levels.
    • Monitor control systems and assist in calibration to ensure proper temperature regulation and power efficiency.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education and Certifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate degree or technical certification in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred.
    • Licensed electrician or journeyman certification preferred.
    • Knowledge of electrical codes and regulations (e.g., NEC, NFPA 70E).
  • Experience:
    • 2+ years of experience in industrial electrical maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
    • Experience with PLC systems, automated control systems, and high-voltage equipment.
    • Familiarity with electrical systems used in tile manufacturing or other heavy industries is a plus.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills related to electrical systems and components.
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and equipment manuals.
    • Proficiency with diagnostic tools, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and other electrical testing equipment.
    • Basic mechanical knowledge to collaborate with the mechanical maintenance team.
    • Good communication and team collaboration skills.
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work in a factory environment, including exposure to heat, dust, noise, and tight working spaces.
    • Capable of standing, walking, and working for long periods, as well as lifting heavy equipment (up to 50 lbs).
    • Comfortable working at heights or in confined spaces as necessary for electrical repairs.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of electrical systems 
  • Experience with energy-efficient electrical systems and maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems and the ability to work with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
