Responsibilities & Qualifications

The Novelis Bay Minette, AL team is seeking a Process Engineer. The person in this role will use their knowledge of project management to plan and implement key capital projects, drive technology improvements, and provide engineering solutions that deliver efficiency and improve operations within the site. The key responsibility is to generate and coordinate all process settings and procedures to ensure the safe, effective, and efficient production of quality products. This position requires an individual with excellent technical ability, a passion for new technology, and strong communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Work safely and in compliance with all corporate, plant, local, state and federal safety rules and regulations.
  • Understand current policies, procedures, ensuring outside vendors/contractors are in alignment.
  • Coordinate operator training as it relates to the coating process.
  • In collaboration with the process team, ensure that manufacturing processes are capable of meeting both customer requirements and internal yield/recovery, quality, reliability, and productivity objectives by establishing and maintaining standard operating procedures, control plans, SPC, FMEAs and job instructions.
  • Coordinate and manage department project and product development initiatives from beginning to end, being responsible for quality control throughout the implementation cycle.
  • Communicate project expectations to team members, contractors, and customers in timely and clear fashion.
  • Assist with department CARS as they relate to the continuous coating line.
  • Assist quality engineer with maintenance of surface inspection classification system.
  • Assist operators and supervisors on process related items and relevant troubleshooting.
  • Lead improvement activities to improve throughput, efficiency, and recovery
  • Adhere to and support company quality, environmental, health & safety, and certification standards, including ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018, IATF 16949:2016, and ASI Certifications, where applicable.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering field or 3+ years of applicable work history with aluminum rolling, trimming, and/or coating processes.
  • Strong technical and process leadership skills are required in this position, with ability to work multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Must possess strong decision making and problem-solving skills including the ability to tackle problems while exhibiting practical judgment and realistic understanding of the issues involved.
  • Must be able to overcome obstacles and find reasonable resolutions to situations on a case-by-case basis as encountered.
  • Must exercise discretion when determining if direction from manager is needed.
  • Willingness to travel for training and meetings as needed.
  • Experience using a variety of computer programs and willing to learn new computer skills quickly.

Location Profile

Novelis' newly announced Bay Minette facility will be located 35 miles northeast of Mobile AL and 45 miles west of Pensacola FL and is expected to create approximately 1000 high-paying advanced careers in modern manufacturing. This highly advanced rolling and recycling facility will be the first of its kind. It will primarily serve our customers in the beverage can and automotive markets.
