Heat Treat. & Up. Shift Leader - Baytown, TX  

 

LOCATION: Baytown - Texas  - USA 

DEPARTMENT: INDUSTRIAL OPERATIONS 

 

Purpose:

Responsible for leading and supervising employees during assigned rotating shifts in the heat treatment of OCTG products. Oversee production operations on gas furnaces and quench & temper lines, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality processing aligned with customer specifications and company standards.


Main Responsibilities:

    • Supervise daily operations of heat treatment processes, including gas furnaces and quench & temper lines for OCTG products.
    • Ensure production schedules are executed according to customer specifications, including proper setup based on product “recipes” (e.g., P110 and other HT grades).
    • Oversee equipment setup and operation, including straighteners and associated line equipment.
    • Coordinate continuous material flow by ensuring availability of raw materials and removal of finished goods.
    • Ensure adherence to product specifications and quality standards through coordination with lab and quality teams.
    • Monitor key process indicators such as productivity, utilization, interruptions, and rejections.
    • Track and report production metrics (L2 tracking, shift reports).
    • Identify and escalate deviations from procedures, specifications, or quality standards.
    • Partner with maintenance teams to troubleshoot equipment and process issues; communicate findings and follow through on corrective actions.
    • Lead or participate in Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives aimed at optimizing plant performance.
    • Promote strong housekeeping standards across the area.
    • Lead, coach, and develop a crew of approximately 5 shop floor employees
    • Foster clear communication across shifts and ensure alignment on production goals and safety expectations.
    • Manage staffing, performance, and HR-related activities in line with company policies.
    • Utilize systems such as SAP, NMS, and Power BI (user level) for tracking production, reporting, and performance analysis.
    • To comply with HSE procedures, report any incident or observation, perform inspections and participate in the investigation process. Implement the preventive/corrective actions. Keep the risk analysis and the environmental aspect assessment up to date.
    • Proactively motivates, coaches, communicates with and develops his/her staff and manages HR related activities in line with Human Resources norms and procedures. Protects from damage, theft or misuse the facilities, equipment and other physical resources assigned to his/her area.
    • Complies with Tenaris policies, procedures and management standards, and ensures adherence with all laws and regulations that apply to the area of responsibility.
    • Complies with the energy and other supplies consumption target/goals, carrying out the required actions that aim to reduce the use of them.

    Position Details:

    • Schedule: Rotating shifts (4 days on / 2 days off)
    • Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (6:00 AM – 6:00 PM)

    Qualifications & Skills

    • Experience in heat treatment operations, preferably in OCTG or steel manufacturing environments
    • Familiarity with gas furnaces, induction heating, and quench & temper processes
    • Knowledge of heat treatment grades (e.g., P110) and metallurgical principles
    • Experience with production systems such as SAP, NMS, and Power BI
    • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to lead teams in a fast-paced, shift-based manufacturing environment
    • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
