Operating Room Surgical Technologist

East Houston Medical Center – Baytown, Texas

East Houston Medical Center’s Baytown facility is seeking Operating Room Surgical Technologists who bring technical skill, focus, and pride in maintaining a safe sterile environment. This role is essential to procedure readiness, instrument handling, room setup, and smooth surgical team performance.

About the Role

The OR Surgical Technologist works closely with surgeons, OR nurses, anesthesia, sterile processing, and surgical leadership. The ideal candidate anticipates procedural needs, protects sterile technique, and supports efficient movement from case preparation through room turnover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms, sterile fields, instruments, supplies, equipment, and procedure-specific materials.
  • Scrub surgical cases and pass instruments, sutures, supplies, and equipment to the surgeon and surgical team.
  • Maintain sterile technique and immediately communicate breaks in sterility or safety concerns.
  • Perform counts with the RN according to policy and assist with specimen, implant, and sharps handling.
  • Support room turnover, decontamination coordination, case cart preparation, and restocking.
  • Inspect instruments and equipment for readiness, functionality, and completeness before procedures.
  • Coordinate with sterile processing and supply chain regarding missing, damaged, or urgent items.
  • Follow AORN-aligned practices, infection prevention standards, and facility surgical safety procedures.

Scheduling and Availability

Full-time and part-time schedules may include day shifts, variable shifts, call coverage, weekends, holidays, and procedure volume-based assignments.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Completion of an accredited surgical technologist program preferred.
  • CST certification preferred.
  • Current BLS preferred or required based on facility policy.
  • Prior operating room, procedural, or sterile processing experience preferred.
  • Strong sterile technique, organization, anticipation, and teamwork skills.
