Respiratory Therapist
East Houston Medical Center – Baytown, Texas
East Houston Medical Center’s Baytown facility is seeking Respiratory Therapists who can provide skilled cardiopulmonary care across emergency, inpatient, ICU, procedural, and recovery areas. This position is essential to patient stabilization, airway support, respiratory treatment, and clinical collaboration.
About the Role
The Respiratory Therapist works closely with physicians, nurses, anesthesia, emergency staff, and critical care teams to assess respiratory status, deliver ordered therapies, and support patients who require oxygen therapy, ventilatory assistance, or advanced airway management.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patients with respiratory distress, chronic pulmonary disease, acute illness, post-operative needs, or critical care requirements.
- Administer oxygen therapy, aerosol treatments, nebulizer treatments, bronchial hygiene therapy, and other ordered respiratory interventions.
- Set up, monitor, troubleshoot, and document ventilators, BiPAP, CPAP, high-flow oxygen, and related equipment.
- Assist with intubations, codes, rapid responses, airway emergencies, and patient stabilization activities.
- Perform arterial blood gas collection or respiratory diagnostic support as permitted by credentials and facility policy.
- Communicate respiratory findings, treatment response, and concerns to providers and nursing staff.
- Maintain equipment readiness, infection prevention practices, and accurate respiratory therapy documentation.
- Support education for patients and families regarding breathing treatments, oxygen use, and respiratory care plans.
Scheduling and Availability
Full-time and part-time schedules may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating coverage across multiple clinical departments.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Active Texas Respiratory Care Practitioner license required.
- CRT or RRT credential required or preferred based on final facility policy.
- Current BLS required.
- ACLS and PALS preferred or required within facility-defined timeframe.
- Ventilator, ICU, emergency, or acute care experience preferred.
